hammer84 Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I'm looking for my first bass boat. I found a new 2007 Nitro 898 sitting at the dealer. It is marked down 6k. The boat has the coastal package on it, which means no carpet. Coming from a sail boat background, I never had carpet in any boat. The dealer said nobody wants it because it has no carpet. Never having owned a bass boat, what would be the draw backs of having no carpet. thanks !! -Myke Quote
fishingfourfun Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I see no obvious drawbacks. It may look different but that is about all. The carpet gets dirty and fades! Quote
flippincrazy Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I have a champ with no carpet. CONS: very loud when fishing and while driving, every wave you hit is very loud (compartment lids), in morning with dew on the boat every step leaves foot prints and makes boat look dirty, rods slide back at you after a couple MPH, strap them down, no carpet to hide stress cracks which every boat will get, no carpet=no cushion, after a few long days of fishing in row your back will be sore PROS: easy to clean, never gets hot so you can fish barefoot, dries fast after it rains, looks cool love mine, but my next bass boat will have carpet, if I was using it as an intercostal for other species I would buy another one with no carpet hope this helps Quote
J_Zink Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 If I'm not mistaken, those 898's had a snap in carpet option. You might want to check with a Nitro dealer on that. Quote

It does have a snap in carpet option. I'll check into the price of it. I was not looking for a new boat, but this one seem like a good deal. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 30, 2008 Super User Posted August 30, 2008 YES! DRAWBACK!! You want to be a quiet as possible and the carpet muffles the sound of your movement in the boat. Get carpet installed. Quote
JShrock07 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 If you don't buy this boat let me know it sounds like a hell of a deal!!! Quote
Big-O Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Carpet is an inexpensive and relatively easy installment. If you are really high on that boat for that price, you and/or a friend can handle the carpet deal as long as you have a few cold Bud Lites around.... Big O Quote
hammer84 Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 Trying to talk the wife into today. We'll see........ Quote
JShrock07 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Trying to talk the wife into today. We'll see........ HAHAHA Okay well I'll be waiting on you to tell me where it is HAHAHA Good Luck with that. Hope you don't have any other toys if yours is like mine then I hope you know how to put your foot down ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote
mattm Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I don't think the no carpet would be a huge deal for us down here in TX, but you are in MO. I here that the no carpet boats really blow in the frost and frezzing weather. Quote
mattm Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I would also think you could put carpet in way under 6k. Good luck. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 I have an Ranger Intracoastal which is basically an Bass Boat with no carpet, I wear crocs when fishing to keep quiet and last time I checked REALLY spooky saltwater species (Reds,Bonefish, Permit, Snook, Etc) are usually approached by fisherman in boats with NO carpet. I am sure carpeting helps, but how much, I don't know. If I lived where it was cold and miserable and ice on the deck would be a factor then carpet all the way! Quote
The Next KVD Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 get the snap in carpet, i believe the nitro website has the option for $400. Quote
George Welcome Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Most successful boat on Stick Marsh/Farm 13 - Do you see any carpeting? If you are really going to worry about any noise you might make walking on a deck, imagine what happens when you run your motor. Quote
