Jbuckwild Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Hey guys, I have a 2019 Levante Jerkbait Special on warranty repair. Looks like i won't see it until January MAYBE. Megabass is offering me to jump up to the Orochi XX Jerkbait Speical for $50. Should i do it?? I have used this rod for more topwater than jerkbaits but extra sensitivity and better guides is intriguing. I do love that new Levante though... Paired it with a JDM Scorpion MGL so the Levante looks amazing with it. The orochi won't match as well, but I should get over that.... Should i do it or wait? The full grip adds some weight I'd assume but looking for recommendations. Thanks!! Quote
LegendaryBassin Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Yes I would take the jump to the XX unless you aren't a fan of the full cork grips. But yes the XX will be overall more responsive/sensitive than the Levante. The Jerkbait Special is a versatile rod that can handle topwater, jerkbaits, small crankbaits, and even some finesse jigs. It's a great rod! Quote

It's a great rod! As long has the handle doesn't get in the way I'm fine. I enjoy split and full grips but if it adds too much extra weight I'll be bummed. I just got an orochi xx shakey head and love it but the quality of how they fit the cork to the rod is a little subpar imo compared to say a Dobyns. Leaning more towards stepping up. Have you used both casting rods? I've only felt an orochi spinning rod. Quote
Jbuckwild Posted October 16, 2019 Author Posted October 16, 2019 It seems like a no brainer. Idk why I'm struggling to pull the trigger. Do i stick to the Jerkbait special or opt for a flat side special instead? Hmm..how regular of an action are we talking here? Quote
Dens228 Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 I needed a second Levante 2019 Braillist when they had their recall so I bit the bullet and bought the Orochi XX instead. Both are very nice, but I just ordered another Orochi XX and would do so even if the Levante was available right now. The Orochi has spoiled me. So yes, do the upgrade. Quote
Derek1 Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 I have no experience with either, with that said I would take the upgrade. Quote
LOZSteve Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 I would get the Orochi XX jerkbait special rod, it’s a great jerkbait, small top water and or small crankbait rod. Finish is as good if not better than the Dobyns rod and I am not saying Dobyns are bad rods as I have the Champion 705, 733, 734, 805, and a extreme 703sf. The rod is sensitive and loads well don’t think I’ve lost a fish once hooked up on it. Quote
Dens228 Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 My third Braillist arrived today! LOL One is a Levante 2019 that I use for T-rigs and weightless plastics The two Orochi XX's are for jigs, a swim or chatterbait and a bottom contact jig. 1 Quote
