Rainy Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 I already own a Veritas, just want to know what others think about them. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted October 14, 2019 Super User Posted October 14, 2019 I own 4 of the 2.0 and feel that they're fine rods. Great price point and they're light weight. BPS has a deal at times if you buy a Shimano Stradic you can get a Veritas at $50. They may do that with other reels also. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 14, 2019 Super User Posted October 14, 2019 The Veritas casting rods tend to run tend to run on the stiffer side : As an example the Veritas MH tends to feel and respond more like a H action rod with other rod makes . 1 Quote
Fishaholic7lbs Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I had some veritas.. although they are very light and sensitive for the money I had several break on me.. had a 66m break boatflippin a small bass and had 2 7H break. One that still puzzles me cause I had caught 100’s of fish on and one day had a bite set the hook and snap.. but i still got the fish in Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 15, 2019 Super User Posted October 15, 2019 Don't own any but they have made me lots of money with all of the guide replacements I've done on them over the years. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted October 15, 2019 Super User Posted October 15, 2019 I owned 2 and I really liked the way they fished. However, they both broke so I won't say they were great rods. One was possibly my fault for trying to horse a fish out of cover but the other just broke on a hookset. Quote
Russ E Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I had one break fighting a fish. another had the ceramic ring fall out on the tip eyelet. I gave up on them. they were good for a while, but did not last. I have 2 cheaper vendetta rods that are still going strong after 3 years of hard use. They are not as sensitive, I use them for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted October 15, 2019 Super User Posted October 15, 2019 Over all I like them for their actions and the way they fish, not over enthusiastic about their reel seats and lock nuts. I have a couple stashed away in folks garages where I might find myself for a few days sans a stick. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted October 15, 2019 Super User Posted October 15, 2019 I have a 6'10 1/2" Veritas 2.0.....was MHF, now probably MHFaster I lost the tip top ceramic ring, too. But.....I will admit that I was using the rod tip to try to detach a jig from an overhanging tree branch. The old tip didn't come off quite as easily as my lack of patience might have hoped, so I snipped off the tip and put a new one on. I still like the rod, though I don't use it as much any more. It was a great rod for me for a couple/few years. Quote
drew4779 Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I had a gen 1 and it broke on a hookset. In 2014, I was fishing Okeechobee with my dad and he grabbed one on a whim at a nearby bait shop (gen 2). He used it for that trip then gave it to me after. I fished it hard till August of 2018 when my brother shut the car door on it. There's now a small crack on the butt. Its since turned into a go to t-rig rod for high abuse situations (hiking and kayaking). It also gets the call if I'm on the bass boat by myself and have room for a dozen rods on deck. Overall, I like this rod. Its light enough and sensitive enough, and I've not had any of the issues with the eyes and inserts others have had. Quote
PourMyOwn Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I'm probably with the others- like but not love. I got mine at Dicks on clearance for 50 with a Silver Max that was missing a part. I would like it less had I paid more. Quote
punch Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I feel like the Dobyns Fury has booted this rod out of the $100-ish price point discussion totally over the years. I've owned both Fury's and Vertias in the past and the Fury was a much more lively & fun to use stick. The vertias was STIFF and felt cheap in comparison. Plus you know.. all the breakage with the Abu stuff. Quote
TJontario Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 What are people's thoughts now in 2024? The Veritas PLX series has been out for 3 or 4 years now (I believe it's the 4th generation??) Lot of vendors are clearing them out and Abu Garcia says a new generation is coming out this fall... Personally I've enjoyed my 3rd gen 7' H for years, and my 7'3 MH PLX LTD is great. I plan on buying a new model when they come out this fall. I've read so many horror stories but have never had any problems with these rods. Maybe I've been lucky Quote
r83srock Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 At $100 they are decent. The plx has the best blank out of all the veritas rods produced over the years, in my opinion. I have the 6’9” mh and it fishes true to rating. Unfortunately the locking nut cracked on a hookset. Why every rod manufacturer can’t use a Fuji ecs reel seat (bulletproof) is beyond me. Falcon uses one in all their rods and to me it’s a huge selling point. Quote
