Hig4s Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Been out three times the last two weeks, off the St Johns river, and only one bite total, and missed that. But tried Carolina rig both light and dark worms, dark deep dive crank baits , shallow dive crank baits, top water: stick, popper and frogs, tiied rattle traps, jigs with minnow tails, and even a salt water mullet lure. Normally dark worms work for me, or sometimes dark deep cranks, the only bite I had was on the jig. I am seeing fish on the sonar, I just can't get them to bite. Anyone have an idea what they are biting on now? Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted October 12, 2019 Super User Posted October 12, 2019 I haven’t been on the river lately , but a friend that lives in the fruit cove area caught a 5 pounder on a trick worm , not sure what color. I have done best in the river system with soft plastics, red shad or black , black grape. My favorite worms in the river is Culprits and producto tournament worms. I like fishing Cypress trees and inside grass beds on high tide( the closer to Jax you get the tides are a factor) and the outside of grass beds and under docks at lower tides. Usually the end of the docks will be right on the edge of deeper water so they often hold fish. Pick out the low slung docks and skip under them if you can. They usually hold more fish. I also just mainly fish the ends and under boathouses, not the walk way part. If I had one pattern that would be it. If you fish live bait, shiners always account for some good fish, I would fish them on outside grass/ pad edges. I haven’t fished south of lake George but I have a friend down there that fishes in the river east of Orlando and does very well with swimbaits on a weighted jig head. 1 Quote
David Phillips Jr. Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 My dad and I usually have the best luck with the Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm and Trick Worm in Green Pumpkin, Texas rigged. Green pumpkin seems to be the most productive color. Black and Junebug can work. I've also caught fish on a Zoom fluke in smokin shad, also Texas rigged. Most times my rigs are weightless. Sometimes I'll insert a bit of nail weight to speed up the fall a bit. I have even caught a couple on jigs, but the best seems to be worm of your choice in green pumpkin. I've been reading and trying to learn bass fishin, here and other sites. I may be suffering from info overload. I've got a large tackle box with a bit of almost everything in it, but I seem to use my green pumpkin worms the most. Quote
HeavyTwenty Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 Weightless or slow falling (1/16 oz bullet weight or maybe a split shot) presentation seems more important than the color or type of worm. Weedless dropshot also seemed to work well. Quote
Super User geo g Posted November 2, 2019 Super User Posted November 2, 2019 If I could only choose one it would be a 4" senko, watermelon red, with 15 pound floro, and a medium heavy fast rod. That goes for anywhere in Florida, especially heavy cover. Quote
