It's a nice looking reel. Can get on the list to get one for $60, full price will be $120. Good way to get a blazing fast reel for cheap.

*Just remember - the faster the reel the less torque you have retrieving heavier lures and hauling in bigger fish from the spinach... Eat your Wheaties !

I love these threads about these super fast reels, they always look sweet and it's one of those very few times a guy being super fast is a good thing.

I signed up, $60 for a reel that takes up 42" of a line a handle turn? I like both the other 2 versions of the Speed Demon I have and this one appears to be nicer still than either of those, hard for me to say no.

Crowd funding?

Are they doing this for charity?

Crowd funding isn't for charity, though it's often used as such. What we have here is a clever way do drive interest, get pre paid orders and collect info. I'm waiting for a reel that goes to 11, now I gotta go do my 6 minute abs workout...

Actually, the frame is an aluminum alloy on this one...

I just noticed that their 9.3.1 on Amazon is $69. The specs look very similar to this one, from what I can see anyway. If this one is about $60. What gives?? What am I missing here?

The original Speed Demon is over 1.5 ounces heavier and appears to be much bulkier (haven't held the new one so can't confirm but looks much more compact from the pictures). That right there is a huge difference. 37 IPT VS 42 IPT, 5" more every turn of the handle is a lot more cast by the end of the day or maybe the difference between keeping a big fish that's running at you pinned instead of it gaining just enough slack to shack the bait. This new version holds a good amount less line, which large capacity reels are for the most part not needed for bass fishing, so it should save money in the long haul on line and a full reel performs better, easier to keep a reel with less capacity full. 18lbs of drag on the new one vs 13lbs on the older one.

Actually quite a few differences in the specs between the 2.

On a sort of unrelated note, as I was doing the comparisons, I noticed one of my blue bladed jigs hanging from the mouths of one of the fish in their picture. The bass in the very bottom left, so that's kind of cool :)

I stand corrected.  Aluminum frame is one of my priorities on a $60 reel.  I only have two really.  Aluminum frame and centrifugal or dual brake.  It checks box 1 at least.

The description also says externally adjustable centrifugal brakes.

as a reminder ...

it's a 120 dollar reel folks like me can buy for 60 dollars ....

comparable to a 150 dollar reel from its competitors ...

good fishing ...

I put my name on the list , not that I need another reel LOL. What would be a good rod selection for this reel?

I'd use it as a jerkbait reel, quick line pick up is always good for jerking

I received this message regarding the reel...Once we get the notice of the discount we've got to compete to be the first few to grab it for the half price cost. Since they're asking us to compete with each other I probably won't participate. At least that will make it easier for others right? So, be at your computer at 6pm... pacific time. What is that, 9pm Eastern(?) where I am. If you're quick at the keyboard you might get it. Two hundred entries might seem easy to do but with 370 million people in the US and is it open to Canada and other countries? They might go pretty fast. The original email said the first 300 backers now it's 200... but still. Good luck guys.

"We're excited to kick off our Indiegogo campaign for the Speed Demon Elite tomorrow at 6 pm PST!

At that time tomorrow, we'll send you a unique link that will take you directly to the campaign where you can lock in your $60 discount (50% off retail).

Remember, we are only able to give this deal to the first 200 backers, so keep an eye on your inbox and lock in your discount early.

Good luck tomorrow, anglers!"
