i pretty much dislike everything about treble hooks, have any of you guys switched over to single in-lines on your crankbaits and such lures? if so how is your hook up rate compared to trebles? reasons.... i like to release all of my fish unharmed.... i hate getting trebles out of the net...and i dont like fish thrashing around in my hands that are hooked with trebles.

I feel you on this one, I dislike Treble hooks very much. I firmly believe they have a 100% hook up rate on anything besides fish.

I hate trebles. Hooked myself in the belly once with a bass still attached. That was a fun time! The bass and the fat were flopping all over the place. ?

The trebles I felt seemed to not get the fish into the boat as much as I would have liked.

So, I changed some of my stuff over to singles. They worked but not as good as I thought they would. Plus, seeing my favorite perch crankbait with single hooks just looked sort of wrong. I eventually changed back to trebles but this time I upped them to a quality hook and a size larger. It didn't seem to affect the action of the lure much if at all and I kept a lot more of the fish.

But, I still am super wary and careful around trebles. And unless just one hook is in the lip I always grab for the pliers to remove them.

I swapped out the trebles on my 1oz lipless cranks with circle hooks. I have not lost any fish that I have hooked. With the normal trebles, the lure weight would give the fish a lot of leverage. I think the only down side is if the fish swipes at the lure, the single hook will not catch it.

I'm using KVD Elite triple grips with the barbs smashed down. They seem to hold real well. I tried the single hook route but have concluded that my percentages are better with the trebles. Being barbless really helps with dicey unhooking situations.

After watching underwater footage of how fast a bass can spit out a hard bait there is no way I would ever have confidence with a single hook.  I can guarantee your hook up ratio would go way down.

I have not been happy with the results with swapping out trebles for singles with most hard baits. What I do like at times is up sizing and cutting off one of the points on one or both hooks. I also pinch down the barbs until there is just a slight one left.

I don't like messing around with changing hooks as I am always afraid it will mess up the action...I do crush the barbs down on many of my trebles. As long as you keep tension, you will hook plenty of fish...I actually believe going barbless on rattle traps and other baits you snap off grass actually helps you get more strikes and less grass.

Most of the saltwater lures that come with single hooks from Rapala and Yo-zuri I would be confident with only because I would assume they are balanced right...But I don't like how it looks with single hooks. Never attempted it, but plenty of the big game saltwater guys use single hooks, but then again, different type of fishing.....
