skekoam Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I'm curious if drop shotting is recommended in a small lake/pond from the shore. It seems a lot more effective from a boat in deep waters where the bait isn't at a severe angle. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 While it is more effective from a boat, you can use a dropshot from shore. All the lakes you've fished at, I've caught fish with a dropshot. Finding the right spot as avoid super shallow water is a good idea. IIRC, I rigged it so the hook was about 12 to 18" from the weight, depending on conditions, so experiment. I prefer nose hooking a worm. On the hookset, do a sweeping motion, vs. jacking the fish. Worms I like are 4 to 6" Roboworms in shad colors MM, Arron's Magic, and Morning Dawn. There are other good DS baits out there, maybe goggle them to see what you may like. Quote
primetime Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Morning Dawn Roboworms.....Been my new favorite finesse worm last few months.....I like to simply split shot rig them in shallow water from shore, I find I get much less line twist and I can still fish it in a similar way....I get frustrated fishing a dropshot here in Florida when shallow because of weeds and line twist from shore....I like nose hooking as well in general for dropshots, but with a mojo or split shot rig, long leader, the Finesse worms are light so they basically suspend off bottom, and if you use a Z-Man worm, it will kind of float of the bottom once the salt is gone.... I am sure dropshotting would work well if you put in the time to put it into spots you know hold fish or replenish since you can keep it exactly where you want it.... 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted October 13, 2019 Super User Posted October 13, 2019 I dropshot from the bank all the time, I use it to keep a plastic close to the bottom on muck-bottomed ponds where a jig or t-rig will pick up too much crap. If there is any cover I will t-rig a 6" Robo and fish it with a 3/16oz weight on a very short dropper, like 8-10". If it is more open I nose hook a 3" Easy Shiner and use a 1/8oz weight and a slightly longer dropper, like 10-16". 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 13, 2019 Super User Posted October 13, 2019 Anglers drop shot by casting it all the time but it's far better fished vertically in lieu of horizontally. From shore I suggest using a premium mono line and slip shot rig using floating style worms to kep tem off the bottom. Tom 1 Quote
