Been in the rumor mill for several months, can’t believe it actually happened. Heads will explode now! Lol

I guess my initial reaction, has to do with the 6 day FLW tournaments. I can't imagine them all being on the same body of water.  Sort of makes me think, that BASS might increase the Elite series field, or add other divisions.

MLF had to do this.  They need a farm system to provide new talent.  My guess it the FLW tournaments will switch to the MLF format.

If I was BASS,  I would allow all former Classic champions to fish the classic.  That's the only way the classic can continue to be the most prestigious tournament in bass fishing. That would also give some of their anglers a chance to make a name for themselves fishing against the best in the world.

The FLW is going to fish the first 3 days at the regular 5 fish format, culling down to twenty for 3 more days of the MLF format ..... hard to wrap my head around that this early!

i'm not a mlf hater, in fact i really like it. i don't think they should change the format of flw though.

the scheduling between organizations should be a non issue now.

i tend to watch more flw live coverage than i do bass or mlf due to it being on youtube. i watch it on roku, and my phone doesn't have to be tied up like it does when i watch bass live or mlf

Wow, pretty big news! The industry is constantly changing after many many years of not much change. For better or for worse, it'll be interesting to see how it all progresses. I previously liked the variety of all the different tourney trails, just as I enjoy the variety of different tackle shops. Monopolies aren't a favorite of mine.

I almost created a duplicate thread, any way to make the subject of this thread a little more specific/applicable so people scanning around can more easily recognize what it's about?

I fixed it for you.  :)

This really isn't "breaking news". Everyone in the industry was talking about this last July during ICAST.  We knew it was coming. It's just official now.

Let's just say Duckett is very "motivated". ;)

B.A.S.S. is on its heels right now because most of the established Elites fled to MLF, and now Duckett intends to put them against the ropes with this move.

Dropped the entry fee for boaters and non boaters...not sure if this is a good thing.

Bars with a cover charge and bars without one are distinctly different.

My first thought, C&R needs to be priority. If FLW goes that route, good. Dead bass after each tournament is not good. Dead bass is ok if a check is cut.

Will the 5 fish format part of the tourney be immediate release?

First of all, I hope they can do C&R and keep both formats.  I like MLF but it can be too much of a dink-fest. No reason on the FLW side you can’t weigh, release and record your 5 biggest.

Second, would there actually be two 3 day tournaments back-to-back?  We all love fishing but 6 days straight is a lot!

Anyone who still thinks B.A.S.S. is still the dominate tournament organization only needs to look at this years AOY top 10.

The MLF merger with FLW is good news for every tournament bass angler, especially if you live in the west.

I dont see why they dont catch and release the biggest 5 instead of all the small fish. I dont care at all about which acronym is the industry leader, i just dont like watching people catch small fish. I just change the channel when i see that.

Wow.  So cool!  To be honest, I've made little attempt to watch FLW.  But do pay attention to MLF and I will pay attention to FLW if they become MLF.

I think no entry fees mean that there are qualifying standards instead so you actually weed out the poor performers. FLW was going that route already so it isn't a change to their direction.I believe in 2018 they said 2020 was going to start rigid qualifying standards via points.

Pay to play setups are more likely to give you a sub par field anyway when kooks have the cash.

MLF is dynamic.  In 8 years it's growth has multiplied.  B.A.S.S., while not quite anemic, is playing with a business model that relies on old tech.  I would rather watch ALL fish being caught, not just 10% showing off their top 5.

People choose to forget the empty sacks and 12"/14oz fish brought across the B.A.S.S. stage.
