TriStateBassin106 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Personally I prefer 3 to 5 hours at max when I'm working a bank at a pond or a lake, I feel like I can test different stuff out and see what's going on, My prefer time is usually in the morning. What about you guys? How many hours do you fish at a pond/lake? 2 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 Spent many a 8 hr days fishing from shore. Time spent will depend on the pond/lake, and the weather. If it stays sunny with no wind, less time, if the wind comes up, or it gets cloudy, then I stay..The more time you put in on any given body of water, the more you learn. 1 Quote
Junger Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 4 hours is about my max because of familial duties. Otherwise, I'd be out there as long as I could. 3 Quote

Sometimes I fish for less than 1 hour, other times I fish for 12 hours or more. On average most of my bass fishing trips are around 4-8 hours. 1 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 I'm retired, so I could stay all day .... but I don't. I fish for 3-4 hours, eat a snack and take a nap (old people have to take naps. It's the law.) and then fish for another 3-4 hours. I've noticed that the morning and evening fishing is productive. The midday fishing is much less so. If I had a boat, I could probably make that change, but I don't. jj 1 Quote
Fried Lemons Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 3-5 hours if I'm dialed on a bite. 8-10 hours if I'm not. Typically late morning to afternoon when fishing pressure is lowest. Quote
Derek1 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Any where from 20 minutes to six hours. If it’s Saturday morning and I have nothing going on I’ll do 6-12or 1 o’clock. It depends on conditions and the bite if I feel Like I fished all available areas The best I can I’m done at that spot. Sometimes that happens fast and sometimes it takes a while. Quote
Wizzlebiz Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 3 to 15 hrs depending on how far I have to go to get to the body of water. The longer the drive the longer im staying. Quote
JediAmoeba Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Depends on the body of water. When I have the chance I will hit a place for a few hours then drive to another place for a few hours and then drive to another place... I have hit 6 or 7 different bodies of water in a day before. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 10, 2019 Global Moderator Posted October 10, 2019 Bank fishing trips for me are usually short trips, less than an hour. If I have more time than that I'm usually going to be in the boat or kayak. 1 Quote
Drew03cmc Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Couple hours normally, depending on the day. Quote
ike8120 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Depends on the day, location, weather but usually 1 to 2 hours. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 I'm on the extremes, often I go in knowing I have an hour or two (sometimes less) before I have some place to be. When I have a full day, I'm there all day. Quote
CrankFate Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Wow. I was surprised by these answers. I rarely ever fish less than 4-5 hours at a time. Which is part of the reason why when I wind up with lots of other more *important* things to do, like this season, I don’t get out much. There’s no way I’m fishing for only an hour or two. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 Two hours, plus or minus 30 minutes. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 I only fish local ponds from the bank. Typically I fish from 11:00-1:00. 1 Quote
Southernbasser Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I usually fish a local pond 1-2 hours about 2 or 3 days a week. I always fish early in the morning. Starting around 7:30 or 8:00. It`s a good way to start the day. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 My Bank fishing trips are usually 2-4 hours. A typical fishing day will have me up at 5am for coffee and a light breakfast. A short 10 minute drive to get on the banks at 7am. Hike and fish then on my way home at 11am. I freshen up when I get home and have lunch at 12am Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 For me it depends on the time of year From about the end of May until recently the heat & humidity is so high that I try to be on the water at daylight & gone by 10 or 10:30. The rest of the year it can be daylight to dark thirty! That applies to boat or bank ? 2 Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 No boat for me, so I'm bank fishing or wading. Usually only am able to fish one day on the weekend so I'm fishing as long as I can that day. 1 Quote
RB 77 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Usually very short sessions about 2 - 4 hours. Occasionally I will do a 1/2 day or full day if I'm with a buddy on one of our days off. Time of day wise, I definitely prefer the first few hours of the day or the last few hours of the day. Boat, Yak stuff is usually and all day affair with a minimum of a 1/2 day, so I get the bulk of my hours in that way. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 Depends on the size of the place, if they're biting, weather, etc. I want to walk all that i can reach. If it's big enough 3-5 hours. If it's evening, until dark, however long that is. Sunset/sunrise is a magical time to be on the water. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 My evening bank trips are around 2hrs. Less now, getting dark by 7:00 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 Highly variable, but either 5-6 hours or like 10-12 hours. I live in a traffic hellhole so I need to plan my weekday trips to minimize rush-hour exposure. Quote
