JK Jake Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 So I recently visited my local Academy store and saw that the Booyah Prank popper/crankbait was on sale. Has anyone ever tried this lure? Is it really that special? I've fished some topwater poppers a little bit, but this lure seems like a huge gimmick to me. I would appreciate to hear yall's thoughts and experiences. Quote
Big Rick Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Bought a couple and was not impressed. They do work......sorta. They will move water when you jerk them, but it's not a good pop or burble. It's not much different than trying to pop a crank bait on the surface. Then, when you reel it straight in to "prank" the fish it's a very lazy wobble at best. Poppers are my favorite way to catch fish. That said, I gave my Pranks away. They're not a good popper nor a good crank bait. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 I have never gotten them to work well as a popper, but I do like them a good bit as a shallow crankbait. I use them a lot when I am wading as even cranked quickly to keep up with current they don't run too deep. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 10, 2019 Global Moderator Posted October 10, 2019 I've had more success with them as a crank than a popper, but they do work. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 Too gimmicky for me. Could I tie it on and catch fish with it? Sure, but way too many other good options for both poppers and shallow cranks to settle for something that does neither well. 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted October 10, 2019 Super User Posted October 10, 2019 I don't think a scam. Designed by Zell Rowland, one of the best. This bait is a modern take on an old lure I used as a kid, the South Bend Bass Oreno. A floater, popper, diver. It works Quote
