bass slayer21 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I have a 14 ft. v hull and have a 36lb thrust transom trolling motor. I want to be able to control the tm but also want the front. So im thinking about rotating the head, and putting it on the bow of the boat. Has anyone done this? Does it work good? The only thing i dont know about is switching seats after i run my 7.5 hp motor with whom ever im fishing with. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I did this on my jon boat 3 years ago and haven't looked back. It works best when I let the guy fishing the back of the boat run the outboard and I run the trolling motor. Switching seats is a pain. I use the trolling motor mounting bracket from BPS...a lot of guys don't like it because it has a lot of flex, but I guarantee you'll appreciate that flex when you run into a stump. Good luck with your project. Quote
Certified Public Angler Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 my cousin does this with his 14ft V-hull. He just takes a small block of 2x4 and puts it under the edge of the front while tightening down the TM. It works just fine. It gives the TM a lot of control when the 9hp motor is in the water. Quote
Garnet Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Turned my Minn Kota 35 head and installed on a 14 ft Princecraft 30 years ago and never looked back. Just for the old guys remember the white props on the Minn Kotas, I'd buy 3-4 at a time they broke so easy. Garnet Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 3, 2008 Super User Posted September 3, 2008 Yes Garnet, I have a couple hanging in the garage with the white props. An addition to make operating the motor on the front easier is to add a Big Foot switch to the positive side of the battery connection so you can turn it on and off without turning the handle. Then you can leave it on one speed setting. Quote
avid Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58797____SearchResults the MK Vector 3x is a great trolling motor. The backtroll feature lets you rotate the lower unit while pointing the tiller towards you. A pricey tm for sure but it would suit your purpose extremely well. Quote
