JFlynn97 Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 The next rod I plan to save up for is a G. Loomis 743 MBR. Is the IMX worth the extra $135 over the E6X? I likely won't be buying this rod for a little while as I have to start saving money up (finishing up college in a couple months and have to start preparing for the true adult life!) but I'd be willing to wait a bit longer and save a bit more for the IMX if it'll be worth it. Or, should I consider waiting for a possible new series of rods to come out? Thanks! Secondary question, is the 743 or 744 MBR better suited for a "multi-purpose" rod? I've heard you can't go wrong with either one, but I'd love some input from the guys here. Quote
Hulkster Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 I have the longer MBR 903 E6x and love it, the 7'6 length with the multipurpose MBR taper is awesome for spinner baits crank baits, pretty much everything. that being said, everyone I talk to says the IMX Pro is a big leap up, so i would think it would be worth it to save. Loomis 743 MBR I think you mean 783C MBR, That's loomis speak for 6'6" or 843C MBR would be the 7' version in that line. The 3 power rods in loomis rods are the business. I carry three 3 power rods and one 4 power rod in my boat. The 3 power MBR rods are my all time favorite rods. Great for everything but the heaviest stuff. I live and fish around Chicago, Michigan, Wisconsin so I'm not fishing the heaviest stuff in the world for 15lb bass, The 3 power is excellent for jigs/t-rigs in timber/brush, top water, swim jigs, jerk baits, swimbaits like Kietechs on belly weighted hooks, Chatter baits, spinner baits, square bills, Lipless and just about everything else you will need most of the time. IMO you can't go wrong with any 3 power MBR rod, you will always find a use for it. 1 Quote

Makes sense, I'm really in no real rush to get it (especially with fall starting and me being able to fish less) so I might as well save up a bit longer Quote
padon Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Save your money this winter and get the imx.you won't regret it and unless your fishing really thick cover and big baits the 3 power is really great Quote
lou304 Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 I had an SJR 783 IMX that was my go to spinning rod since I bought it in 2005. It went on almost every fishing trip I went on during those years. The last 4 inches broke off a couple months ago landing a fish. Since It had a limited lifetime warranty I sent it back to G Loomis. They determined that the breakage was not due to a defect, but to some kind of hit to the blank, which I was actually good with since it was 14 years old and had been banged around quite a bit. They offered to replace it with a brand new SJR 783 IMX Pro for $125, which normally sells for $335. Considering it was 14 years old I didn't think that was too bad. You won't be disappointed with the IMX. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted October 12, 2019 Super User Posted October 12, 2019 I also love the loomis MBR rod, especially the 3 powers. I have three of them and think they are about the most versatile rods out there. If you fish heavier cover more often then think about a 844c, but otherwise you can’t go wrong with a 783c or 843c.
