I live in Texas and started getting into bass fishing a few years ago. I feel that it is now time to expand my fishing arsenal.

 

If you guys had to chose 5-6 rods, what would you choose(2 of them being spinning rods)

7 H Casting - 1/2 up jigs and t rigs or Heavy cover

7 MH Casting - 1/2 under bottom contact baits

6'10" MH Casting - Single hook moving baits/topwater

6-9" M Casting - Treble baits

6-10" - 7" - M or ML Spinning - Finesse

Here’s what I think. I don’t know everything or as much as the others who will post their thoughts here but here goes:

 

7’-7’6” Heavy casting-heavy t rigs, frogs, jigs

 

7’ MH casting-pretty much your all around workhorse

 

6’6”-7’ M casting-treble hooks and small things that you would want to put on a baitcaster

 

 6’6”-7’ M spinning-shakey heads, senkos, tubes, etc. 

 

6’6”-7’ Medium Light Spinning-drip shot, wacky worms, Ned rigs, etc. 

 

Again, this isn’t perfect but it should give you some idea. The lengths don’t need to be exact just do what feels good for you.

2 m spinning rods, one 6'6" and one 7'.

1 Heavy baitcaster 7'-7'6" with a HS 200 sized reel.

1 MH Baitcaster 7' with a ~7.1:1 ratio reel.

1 M Baitcaster 6'8"-6'10" with a ~6.1:1 ratio reel.

 

This will cover most everything really.

7'4" H-F 40-50lb Braid.

Frog, pitching, Chatterbait in weeds

 

7' MH-F 15lb Fluro. 

Jigs, T Rig, Spinnerbaits, etc.

 

7' M-F 12lb Fluro

Smaller plastics and jerkbaits

 

7' ML-F 15lb Braid to 8lb Fluro leader

Drop shot, Ned rig, finesse 

 

7'4" MH-M 12lb Fluro 

Mid/Deep Cranks, lipless cranks

 

7'2" M-M 14lb Mono

Shallow Crank, Topwater 

 

If you are requesting two spinning rods because you already have two spinning reels, I would consider starting with 5 setups and save for a fifth baitcaster. No more than one spinning reel is really need for bass fishing in my opinion. Otherwise the medium and ML as spinning rods. I listed the medium moderate sixth because you can get by with one crank rod using a MH- moderate action for shallow to mid cranks. You could also swap the M-M out for another MH with a more moderate action for a braid MH. I like having 2 MH rods. One MH-F for open/cleaner water, one MH-MF with braid to fish swim Jig/Chatterbait through weeds.
