The reel is designed for saltwater, but what I like about it is the 200 size, 22lb of drag, 7:1 or 8:1 gear ratio, and it has the Magforce braking system.

I currently use 40lb braid, but plan on upping to 50lb for next year. The 300 sized reels seem like overkill to me capacity wise and I like that it weighs 8.1oz. I mainly frog over mats, but potentially could frog in heavier cover seldomly.

Curious if anyone has experience with this reel, especially as frog reel or heavy freshwater reel. Also would appreciate other opinions in regards to other daiwa reels including Daiwa Lexa models, Tatula HD.

I have no experience with that reel but what your saying makes perfect sense to me. The reel ticks all the boxes for a frog or heavy cover pitching/flipping reel, high speed, serious drag heavy duty reel that will handle the abuse of frog fishing.

p.s. West side HS grad and go Big Red!

I have at least one Diawa with Magforce.  Been awhile since I've used it, but I don't recall any problems casting it.  Got it and a 6' MH Lightning for my oldest grandson, but he had no interest in trying a baitcast reel so now the combo is my dedicated short range spinnerbait rod.

GBR and tight lines!

I wouldn't.  It has Magforce and not Magforce Z like the regular Tatulas.  You are giving up a superior brake system just to hold a bunch more line than you will need.  A regular 100 size Tatula will hold enough 65# braid.  If you want more capacity then look at the 150 USDM or 153 from JDM.

Glad you pointed out the magforce vs magforce z as I did not notice this. I love my tatula 100 and Tatula sv.I am not overly concerned with line capacity ,the main reason I was looking at this reel was the 22lbs of drag as insurance. Is that overkill?

There is a new Coastal SV based off the Tatula 100 with an aluminum side plate and deeper 150 size SV spool.

Does the Coastal SV have Magforce Z Brakes? I'm thinking about getting one.

Oh yeah. It's a sweet looking reel. IMO A lot nicer than the matte black they're putting on a lot of the other new reels.

For what it's worth, after more reading I am going to look for deals on a Tatula Elite, or save up for one. It has aluminum frame and side plate, and a similar size to my other reels. Probably get the 8.1:1 and put 40 or 50 lb. Braid on it. Thanks for replies

Heavy drags are pretty overrated. I’ve never had a functioning drag on any baitcaster, cheap or expensive slip. Once you get that fish moving in the slop, it’s all rod anyway. That Tatula 100 is a sweet little reel. I’d use that!
