have been reading articles regarding doifferent types of ned rig.  Am wondering if anyone knows of a source for a mushroom style weight only (not a jig head) that preferably would have some type of bait keeper like a screw lock molded into the weight.  This would alow me to use a ring on the bait and attach my drop shot hook to the ring while the weight keeps the head down allowing the weight to float semi-upright.  I recently read an article in Bassmaster mag that showed a picture of the set-up..  Thanks for your response.  Tired of using finishing nails!!!

Are you trying to re-invent the Neko rig?

Cumberland Pro Lures Neko Weights are what you want.

In my experience, stainless steel screws, of an appropriate size & weight, heated with a lighter a little bit before insertion, hold in the plastic better than the insert mushroom head lead weights.   I have both.   Also, I think the stainless steel screws make a slightly different sound when they clack against hard bottom stuff.  I got the screws by going to ace hardware, in the specialty fastener aisle.  I brought my small postage scale with me in my back pack, pulled it outset it up level and started weighing different sizes of screws.  It attracted some interest, but after a short while, the help realized I was harmless and left me alone while I went through their fasteners.

It was an interesting conversation. ..  "Can I help you?"    " I don't know, do you know off the top of your head how much the various sizes of stainless steel screws weigh?"    "no, are you nuts?"     "Maybe, definitely probably, but I want to know how much the different sizes of stainless screws weigh and you have most of the different sizes in one place. "

"How about these stainless steel screws over here?"    "Nope, don't need self tapping ones."

When the help busts out with "What is a self tapping screw?"   I just start laughing.

The teenager stood there and watched me the entire time I was in that aisle - watching to make sure I didn't pocket any screws I guess.   When I left the store, he was probably thinking "some geezers are just nuts."

The Neko Rig frustrates me. I know it catches fish, and has a unique falling action, but I am starting to think there are way to many "Finesse" rigs out there to learn,  and This one is not something I go to....Maybe I should, I carry the nail weights, but I still have a hard time seeing how a wacky rig with a split shot pushed down to the head is much different.

I usually just throw a bulleted shape split shot or I keep a bobber stop in front of bullet weight and behind, so I can adjust length as needed to move to a more mojo/carolina look, or push it tight to the head which actually lets baits stand on bottom. Especially Elaztach baits, ribbed baits, and one of my favorites the Net Bait Squirrel tail worm which I am glad I purchased years ago, its a good worm with a floating tail...

I have had problems with heavier nail weights falling out after a catch, or snag, or just from fishing it when I leave the head of the weighted nails on the end...I just feel a split shot provides identical look, at least when side by side on a cooler.....Just my take. I think maybe I just love to add split shots and fish a mojo style rig.......Not to get off topic but people complain about C-Rigging being boring, But here in Florida, a light c-rig instead of a pegged texas rig seems to work better for me when casting for reeling back to boat...Its so easy to adjust and make it any presentaion you want. Not sure why a shaky head or any other weighted rig would be more fun than a carolina rig.....Or Shaky head or heavier ned rig....
