Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 Checking in to see what you are currently using as a 3/8th - 1/2 oz. bladed jig / chatter bait rod ? While there are fans of braid , mono / co-poly and FC main line for chatter baits , I am of the belief that using FC main line (#15 lb.) helps to keep chatter baits down in the water column , improve sensitivity while still providing a little line stretch . Next , most tend to think a bit of delay / soft tip in a chatter bait rod is a good thing to help with getting a good hook set... So if you believe a bit of delay/soft tip is good and you most likely will use FC main line - then what governs your choice of rods for chatter baits ? Say under $150 and 6'10" - 7'4" rod length ... What are your thoughts and experiences in rod choice (bait cast) with what I have laid out above ? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 Been throwing vibrating jigs on a 7'4" composite cranking rod for a while now. It's been working well for me. I catch a couple & talk about here - A-Jay 3 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 2, 2019 Global Moderator Posted October 2, 2019 I use a 7' Fenwick composite X series rod with 12# Sniper Mike Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 I use the same rods I throw big spinnerbaits with. Mostly with 15 lb mono, sometimes with 40 lb braid. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 Chatter/Spinner/Buzz - all on the MH/F Aird-X with the President loaded with 20# Power Pro. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 7’-2” MH+ Zolo Toadface and 8 lb Sufix Advance. I bought on sale for $170 so a bit higher than your stated range. Hard to explain, but the stretch of this line seems to pair very well with this particular rod for Chatterbaits. Casts a lot farther than any other bladed jig set up I’ve used before too.. Quote
Fishaholic7lbs Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I use an original falcon bucoo micro 610H mf.. lews tournament pro 7:1 15lb mono.. the rod is stiff but does have some tip too it.. I use this rod for spinnerbait Buzzbait chattering all works well on this rod 1 Quote
tander Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 I throw my chatterbaits (Jackhammer) on a Falcon 6'6" Lowrider using 16# Sunline Sniper, works for me. Quote
JediAmoeba Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 I used a 7'2" medium power fast for quite a while but didnt necessarily like that I had the rod so bent when retrieving the chatterbait. I then switched to a 7'2" MH fast action rod and the retrieve was nicer but my hookup ratio dropped. Went back to the medium power and my hookup ratio improved. I was using a braid to fluoro leader in both circumstances. Quote
YoTone Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Dobyns Fury 704, Tatula 100H with 30lbs JBraid is what Ive been using for the last 2 years and feel theres no reason to change anything in that set up. Im not a fan of really long rods being im only 5'8'' so thats why i picked a 7 ft rod. If im not getting the distance I need I'll just move closer to the target. I really like the fast action tip on it that has enough give to not miss many bites and it has the backbone to feel like im in charge if im lucky enough to hook into a nice one. Quote
browne762 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 I use a St Croix Mojo Bass spinnerbait rod which is a 7 foot MH Mod-Fast. I think it is $130 or $140. Loads up well to cast a pretty good distance (I only use 1/2oz) and I like the Mod-Fast action for the hookset. Quote
Dens228 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 I use my AvidX MH/Fast with a Lew's Tournament Pro. 30 lb braid. I'd use my Orochi XX Braillist too if I didn't always have a jig tied on it. Quote
Tizi Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Tatula XT 7 ft MH cranking rod with Fuego CT 6.3:1. 10 or 12 lb invisx or sniper flouro. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted October 3, 2019 Super User Posted October 3, 2019 7'MHF Fenwick Aetos w/40# braid Most of my chatterbait fishing is done in places that I want it running through a 18-24" in window between grass tops and the surface. But, I also throw in timber and yo-yo off the bottom in up to about 11 FOW. For me, braid is absolutely the best for these applications. As much as I love this set-up, I have put a Kistler FNR into a web shopping cart about a dozen times....expressly for chatterbaits.....one of these days, the self control is going to lose Quote

Westcoast Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 A Kistler “crank, rip, twitch “ , it’s a 6’9” mh. Hook up ratio is great with the mod fast action and keeps them pinned. I use the same rod for spinnerbaits, squarebills, and lipless. Quote

TBAG Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 I've only recently started to experiment with bladed jig fishing and have only used the Jackhammer so far. I've caught a few but nothing to write home about. I was using my Dobyns Sierra 735c and it did fine. I thought about trying to use my St. Croix 610 Legend Glass as I see lots of you throwing them on a glass rod. 1 Quote
long island basser Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 6’9” MH/MF Hammer micro, Lews tournament MB, 12 lb suffix advanced. Quote
deadadrift89 Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 I use my Lews TP1 7'3" MH/M crankbait rod and it does well, I only throw 1/2oz on it. Lews does have a specific bladed jig rod 6'11" M/F in that lineup but I have no experience using that one. Quote
Chris186 Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 7' MH Duckett Triad for spinnerbait/chatterbait, best spinnerbait rod I have ever used aside from a Hammer. Quote
Allen Der Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 I've done well with a St Croix 68mhf rod with mono. I've yet to catch anything with the mojo glass chatter rod I bought but I haven't used it much yet Quote
Drew03cmc Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 6'6" MH Ethos HD, 6.5:1 reel and 12# Yozuri Hybrid. This setup works for me and if anything, I'd upgrade the rod, but so far, it's almost perfect. Quote
waymont Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Either a Loomis IMX 853c or a Kistler H3 LMH with a Tatula 150 that's a powerhouse. Both work equally well, both with 30lb braid. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted October 6, 2019 Super User Posted October 6, 2019 7'2" Kistler KLX FNR. Med-heavy/moderate. The blank has a glass tip that is fused into graphite. 1 Quote
