Super User Boomstick Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 So as I have slowly began creating my wishlists for black friday sales this year (which will be a lot less than I spent last year as I stocked up last year and replaced what I lost -- mostly replacement soft plastics and a few backup jigs), I have been thinking of what line I plan to use on some of my casting reels. My setup is as follows: Daiwa Tatula CT 7.1:1 - 65lb braid -- use this for frogs and jigs in heavy cover. Daiwa Tatula SV 7.1:1 - 17lb flurocarbon u- Use this for jigs most of the time and sometimes T-Rigs and spinnerbaits or chatterbaits Daiwa Tatula SV 6.3:1 - 15lb flurocarbon -- use this for spinnerbaits, shallow chatterbaits, t-rigs and even shallow ,cranks around grass Daiwa Tatula SV 6.3:1 - 12lb flurocarbon -- crankbaits and jerkbaits Pflueger Patriarch 6.3:1 - 12 mono - topwater and jerkbaits most of the time, simply because I like the way my topwater fishes a jerkbait. I'm more or less set on the first three, but I was thinking of trying 10lb flurocarbon on the reel I use for crankbaits in open water and/or 10lb mono on the Patriarch as well. I had one problem with break offs and that was my own fault. What do you guys think? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 I do cranks and jerks either on the Nitrous with 12# Trilene XL or the Trion with 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Lighter topwaters (plugs) go on the Nitrous but heavier topwaters (WPs, Heddon Super Spook) go on the Fuego or President with 50# or 20# Power Pro respectively. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 2, 2019 Super User Posted October 2, 2019 10# Tatsu on my medium cranking rods. 12# Tatsu on my MH cranking rods. 1 Quote
Bassattackr Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Depends on what you're throwing on the crankbait / jerkbait setup. Here in the Ozarks we mostly fish 10 lb on that setup. Helps get a wiggle wart down further and the lighter line helps the action of a jerkbait. If you're fishing shallower water or water with a slight stain, then 12 lb is a great option. 1 Quote

The main reason I'm hesitant to go down to 10lb mono topwater and jerkbaits is a few spots I fish sometimes are rocky and shallow, but jerkbaits have been effective and if I keep it shallow, I don't lose them in the rocks. A lighter FC sinks slower than a heavier lb test. I fish a lot in those situations as well and stick with 10 lb. Your call.. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 3, 2019 Global Moderator Posted October 3, 2019 I fish jerkbaits on 8-12lb mono, cranks on 8-15lb copolymer, and most of my treble hooked topwaters on 20lb straight braid. Quote
tander Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Using 16# Sunline Sniper FC on my shallow water cranks and 12# Sniper on my deep cranks. I use 14# Sunline Natural on both jerkbaits and topwater. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted October 3, 2019 Super User Posted October 3, 2019 JBs and crankbaits 10-12 lb mono, sometimes 8 and 15, but not often, poppers 12 lb mono, everything else 14-17 mono, except frogs which get heavy braid. Sometimes around pads and other cover I'll run buzzbaits on braid, but not often. What line should one use for sub surface lures?... Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 What do you guys typically use for lipless cranks? I was originally thinking of using my squarebill setup of a 7ft. medium/moderate Veritas Winch 2.0 and a Daiwa Fuego CT 6.3:1 with 12lb. Seaguar Abrazx but now I'm leaning more toward my Dobyn's Fury 734C which right now has a 7.3:1 Curado I spooled with 17lb. Sunline Armilo Defier on it but I'm wondering if I should use heavier fluorocarbon like maybe a 15lb. or more instead? Quote
Tony johnson Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 I fish pretty much straight 20lb power pro braid on everything except frog/heavy cover is 50lb Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 3, 2019 Super User Posted October 3, 2019 I use 6 lb, 10 lb, and 15 lb mono. Which line on which rig depends on the size of the bait and where I will be fishing that bait. Quote
