lenchantin1 Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Anyone fished this river lately? Any tips? Thank you! Quote
Cheeseburger Eddie Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Cast parallel to any outside bend With a bill lewis silver trap. Rip through the grass like no tomorrow. It’s a lot of work. Your corn will be sore Monday morning. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 30, 2019 Super User Posted September 30, 2019 If the wind is blowing in from the east go home. With the drought the saltwater will be up to Helen's and above. Go with a "blue" color like a Moccasin Blue or another hard bait or plastic with some blue to mimic crabs. A sliver with blue back Rat-L-Trap is another option. Throw into the grass or along the grass line with a Senko or plastic and bring it out. If no hits do it all over again. Watch the wind as the Chick can become dangerous in a New York second. Hit all creeks you can and look for good targets. Good luck. Quote
lenchantin1 Posted September 30, 2019 Author Posted September 30, 2019 Thanks for the tips! I'll let you all know how I do. Quote
lenchantin1 Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 Well, it was a tough weekend of fishing on the chic. Caught one bass on worm by the dam and another on white spinnerbait up by the dam as well. Overall, the fish were mostly on lockdown with very small windows of active feeding. Oh well, that is how fishing goes sometimes. On a more positive note, we didn't have to deal with any major rainstorms. Quote
Brad Reams Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 First 4 hours of the OUT GOING TIDE are supposed to be the best times to catch fish Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 8, 2019 Super User Posted October 8, 2019 So did you fish up by the dam the entire time? Some really good creeks along the Chick. Let us know what you did, etc. But don't fret, a bunch of guys fishing the Virginia BASS Federation Nation Fall Classic did good on Saturday and had a difficult time on Sunday. Go figure???? Quote
lenchantin1 Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 Yes, I fished up by the dam the entire time. We tried some creeks to no avail. We didn't see any activity nor boats back in the creeks. Normally, we spend ample time in the creeks, but it just seemed like all the action was on the main river. We threw worms, flukes, senkos, spinnerbaits, rattle traps and probably a couple other types of lures. We saw some boats heading in up by the dam mid-day Saturday. Perhaps that was the VA BASS tournament you are referring to. Everyone in our tournament (small among friends type) hardly caught any fish until low tide which was around 1:30 to 3:00 ish. Quote
