The BPS Clothes Pin Spinnerbaits from 10-20 years ago were pretty much the only thing I used when living in NY to go with the Culprit Worm, then the Power Worm, and a BPS Buzzbait.....I would love to find some of the BPS spinnerbaits with the closed line tie in 1/4-3/8 oz with single colorado blade and white skirt....I would throw that thing all day long, for some reason here in Florida, I don't catch nearly as many fish on spinnerbaits as I used to.

I have so many spinnerbaits in my box, I am not even sure of the brands anymore, I know a bunch are the $1 baits from Walmart, $1 from fishing shows, flea markets etc...A few of my favorites are cheap ones cause they do not have any brands stamped on them....I have Terminators which are ok, but mostly use the Booyah and Strike king spinnerbaits since thats really all that is stocked in stores, but another great spinnerbait that is cheap is the....

H&H spinnerbaits. I know academy still sells them, and a local shop around here sells a bag of 10 for $10. They have the old cheaper tinsel type skirts, but hammered blades, closed eye, and flat out work as good as the expensive ones I have like a War Eagle and few other Randoms I paid $8 for from Tackle Warehouse....If it doesn't roll over on its side, it will catch fish. Skirts are easy to change out....I went through a tackle making phase and I made tons of skirts so I like throwing on watermelon red, or other random colors not seen on spinnerbaits. Green Pumpkin, Orange, and Copper skirts seem to work the best in stained water for some reason, and early in year.

The Wahoo spinnerbaits I see at Academy look pretty good as well. I'm really partial to the War Eagle gold series simply because of the gold blade/skit combo. It has been responsible for a PB.

My only spinnerbait catches this year were on DSG's 'Jawbone' line.

As far as hooks, I like the Eagle claw Lazer Sharp hooks. Cheap and sharp. I dont need Trokar or Mustad or any high dollar ones.

Also the Berkley Choppo (whopper plopper) is great! I have one and love it. Comes with Berley Fusion hooks that are sharp as can be.

I mainly use BBB, zoom and yum unless I find some good sales. Got some KVD Ochos for like $2. Also on the cheaper side is the Berkley Havoc stuff which i use the Pit Boss a ton in different colors. All about $3 a bag.

I prefer the Choppo over The Whopper Plopper. I have more hits on the Choppo, but I tend to lose more fish on it. There isn't much of a barb on the fusion hooks, which probably explains my problem. I will be replacing the Choppo trebles and will still be saving money over the Plopper. Not that I don't like the Plopper. I just think the Choppo is a better bang for my buck.

What size of Choppo do you use? I have the 110 in like a sexy shad color and was thinking about getting a 90 in black for dirtier water.

For value baits that work..... Anything made by Zoom.  What's weird is that a lot of their baits and concepts have been duplicated by other companies and they will always be more expensive.  Usually it's the other way around.  A bait comes out, it catches fish/becomes popular, it goes up in price with the demand, and then the imitations come out at a cheaper price.

I use a 90 more than anything. Black, ghost, bluegill, and the shad. They all catch fish.

When the YoZuri crystal minnows first appeared years ago I bought 8 in various sizes and colors and they were $2.50.  Look at them now...wow!  Some going for $11.00

Easy call - the Choppo is every bit as good as the Whopper Plopper for 60% of the cost.  I only wish Choppo came with their version of the 75 - a shorter but thicker lure than the 90 (and I find much more effective: deeper sound, tracks better, etc).

Try you one of those bass pro shops bubblin toads, it's $6.97 and cheaply made but it catches fish! It has a hard plastic plopper and makes a plop different in sound from my choppos and Whopper Ploppers...

I only had the Choppo out once last season, but had about 50% hookup rate per strike, which is lower than I've had with either the 90 or 75 WP.  I even switched to a Wp75 and my hookups went up... Do any of you think the hooks on the Choppo may be too small?

I will say, I did not see a difference in number of strikes between the two...

I haven’t noticed a significant difference in hook up ratio between the two, but in general it is higher with the 75 over the larger 120/130 and even 110. Size of lure seems to be more of a factor than specific hooks. I guess that makes sense because it’s more bite-sized vs. just slapping at the larger lure. My friends like to point out that I did lose a couple key fish on Lake Commandos and it was a Choppo 120... but I think that was more due to fighting the fish against the current.

On that note, live bluegills catch some lunkers and are cheap to boot

The hooks on the choppo don't have a good barb like the wp does. However, you can replace the hooks and still come in under the price of the plopper.

So far this year the only thing I've caught fish on was a bare hook with a couple little green "egg" balls stuck on it. The fish in question could barely get it in their mouth, which kind of helped select for the larger ones of the school. I think my cost for the setup was about twenty cents.

For cheap T- rigs the berkley havoc is my go to. I really like most H2O products from academy. Zoom soft plastics are cheap too. I’m like a lot of other people, I can’t bring myself to spend $15 for one lure. When it comes to rods I use everything from cheap Quantum to St Croix triumph. And all my reels are either Abu’s or quantum. Hope this helps.

I see Strike King KVD Squarebills 1.5 for 4 dollars every now and again. Hey they catch fish.
