billmac Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 So it's early October, you're on a natural lake with both large and smallmouth. Water temps are in the 50s. You have 1 rod. What do you tie on? Two rods? Three? Four? Mine 1. Jig and spinner. 2. Above, and drop shot. 3. 2. above, plus a frog. 4. Haven't decided. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 29, 2019 Super User Posted September 29, 2019 I usually take four rods..... 1. senkos weightless 2. weighted t-rigged plastic 3. crank baits 4. jerk baits 1 Quote

LonnieP Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 I couldn’t imagine fishing in the fall without a lipless crankbait tied on. 4 Quote

I just want the "water temps in the 50's" in the "it's early October" part!. I fished in water at 79.5 degrees all day yesterday. Quote

The key issue is water temperature in the 50's indicates to me the seasonal period for the bass is early winter. The surface aquatic vegetation has turned brown and dieing with deeper green vegetation. The baitfish are moving deeper and so are the bass. I would do what I always do, locate the depth the bass and bait are located, they could be anywhere but experience tells me below 8'. 1. I always have jigs and worms rigged, 2 rods minimum. 2. Mid 50's surface water a crankbait rod. 3. A structure spoon rod 4. Swimbait rod. 6 rods until I figure out where the bass located. Tom Quote

I just picked the first one that I found that showed the same weightless rig I use. As far as the color goes, I believe that is Peanut Butter & Jelly, #918. 9 hours ago, billmac said: So with it T-rigged, what size line are you using? It looks like mono or fluoro. Just in case (again), I did not shoot this photo. I should have not been lazy and take one..... In my case, I use 12lb Seagur Invizx on casting gear and 6lb Trilene XL 100% FC on spinning gear. Quote

In upstate NY, the bass think that's bath water. When it gets the consistency of a good margarita, then it's early winter. This year is so late too, but when it turns, it turns hard up there. 1 Quote
