kiteman Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 Hi, going to Jamaica in December and was planning on buying an Emmrod. I am like a 4/10 on my Abu baitcaster and a 10/10 on my spin reel, but although I like more room in my bag with the BC, I think the spin makes more sense! Anyway I was going to rent a kayak and try some sea fishing. I have 30lb braid and no idea what lures to use. I was hoping someone could recommend lures and also whether or not this idea is completely bonkers or not, heh. Thank you edit: west coast of jamaica. they do fishing but it is all trolling, which i think it boring Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted September 29, 2019 Super User Posted September 29, 2019 Have been blessed to go a lot of places in this world...took an Eagle Claw spinning pack rod with me almost everywhere and caught halibut in 150 ft of water or better to bluegill and bass down south and salmon up north. To say this rod took a beating was an understatement. I used a Mitchell 300 with spare spools of all sizes of line. A Kastmaster in various sizes, white or yellow lead head jigs, couple small swimbaits......all fits in a small plastic box. Just remember to rinse and dry .... everything after exposure... saltwater has no mercy. Enjoy your trip Oh...small fanny pac holds pliers ...etc. 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted September 29, 2019 Super User Posted September 29, 2019 Go with the spinning (a 3000 or larger if you have it) and 20-30 lb braid. Bring some mono for leader material (20-60), a few swivels, some hooks, a tad of wire, and some of your least favorite larger lipless and JBs, supplement some jigheads and a few spoons and flukes and you should be good to go. I find I end up catching live bait and livelining on "vacation" fishing most of the time. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted October 15, 2019 Super User Posted October 15, 2019 Spoons, jerkbaits, paddletail swimbaits, flukes Quote
