Wizzlebiz Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 At 1st glance this may look like a silly question but pressured bodies of water at least where I live are most pressured on the weekend as I am sure is the same for most of you. The places I frequent dont see many people on monday thru thursday. My question I suppose is do I have a better chance of catching a bass on a wensday or Thursday due to a couple of days of lulled pressure or is it just pressured water is always hard every day of the week? 1 Quote

I don't think the day of week matters as much as the current activity on a lake. I have done will in the morning on weekends, but when the boat activity picks up, the bite often shuts down. I caught this fish on Monday. it is a heavy pressured lake that had a tournament on saturday. there were very few boats on Monday. 5 Quote

Mid week is much better than weekends on most bodies of water, but particularly on smaller ones with lots of fishing and other traffic. 3 Quote

Of course, if yo can only go on weekends, or less than ideal days, then those are the best days to go. If you fish a particular lake a lot, you will get an idea for the comings and goings of crowds. 1 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 Back when I worked 4x10's I had years with Mondays off and others with Fridays, and IME Fridays were definitely better. I assumed it was because they had more time to recover from the weekend fishing pressure and pleasure boaters, but it could have also just been in my head. 1 Quote

Super User geo g Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 Day doesn't matter, it's all about weather conditions, water conditions, current, and bait fish activity. They are programed to deal with these conditions. 2 Quote
Super User Koz Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 Quote Can bass tell what day of the week it is? Who do you think comes up with those fishing calendars that are wrong all of the time? Pure propaganda on the part of the fish to throw anglers off the track. Nah - I agree with Russ E. The fish are sensitive to their environment and detect the increased activity on the water. On weekends you have a lot of non-anglers speeding and splashing around making noise so the fish end up hunkering down somewhere. With less traffic on the water on weekdays they can find spots away from the traffic and carry on their normal routines. 2 4 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 Any day should be good as long as it is not between April 23 - May 23. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 I am retired and can't tell you what day of the week it is without looking at a calanedar. The bass have a 6 season calendar, not a 12 month with week days. Take a look at The Cosmic Clock and Bass Calendar. Can bass determine boat traffic, you bet they can. The question is does it affect them. Tom 4 Quote
txchaser Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 @jpurdue has some pretty good data about this question. The thread was about solunar but the specific post talked about his research and days of the week. 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 Depends I'd guess..My Son and I fished lake Hodges some years ago on a Sat. while there was a tournament, WON I think it was..anyway. We gave way to the guys/gals in the tourney, and still when all the weights came in, we could have placed 3rd. We had No electronics, just went off my experience. Some of you may know who won that tournament, I won't give his name. Anyways, just goes to show that with I believe there were 76 entries, plus us weekend warriors out there. Needless to say, we had a Great day even with all the traffic. 1 Quote
BassNJake Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 My lake is usually easier to fish during the week because they draw more water, creating more current. This puts bass in more predictable areas and easier to pattern. When they are not drawing water the fish seem to scatter You will hear all the time at the weigh ins teams talking about how they were on them when they prefished during the week, but come tourney day the fish were not there. May not apply to where your fishing but it's another variable that might exist 4 Quote
MAN Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Bass get to much credit from fisherman in my opinion. 4 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 I haven't figured out a good way to ask them, however once I figure that out I'm pretty sure that they know there are different days of the week, have reasonable knowledge of when dawn & dusk are likely to happen, are knowledgeable about what turns on and turns off baitfish and other prey, and they are pretty clued in to what season it is. 2 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 In his book High Percentage Fishing: A Statistical Approach To Improving Catch Rates Josh Alwine gathers data from a number of sources and runs the numbers. He says in the book "The data tells a different story, fishing pressure is the single most important environmental factor High Percentage Fishermen should consider on any given outing" He found that the day of the week makes a very big difference due to pressure. In his data he found that the number of fish per hour was three times higher on Wednesday compared to Saturday. The fish may not know what day it is but they do notice that there are fewer anglers on some days. Another quote from the book "As it pertains to catch rates, in the statistical sense, fishing pressure matter far more than all but the most extreme weather phenomena. I'd much rather fish an east wind on Wednesday than a west wind Saturday." 4 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 Can bass tell what day of the week it is? Yes sir they can! They know exactly what day I have planned & shutdown immediately! Seriously I plan my trips during mid-week, less idiots to deal with! 4 1 3 Quote
AstroFishingTV Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Personally, I think bass go more by temp and what they are feeding on. I don't think they are worried about what day it is. I'm sure on those pressured lakes, its harder to catch them on Friday or Saturday due to the local fishing. Quote
Big Rick Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 My work schedule allows me to fish weekdays as well. On my lakes Wednesday thru early Friday are always the better days. But, I'm gonna go every chance I get regardless of the day or perceived pressure from boat traffic. Man only has SO many trips and then they're all over but the memories. And I want a TON of memories. 3 Quote
Shimano_1 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I would rather be out on the weekend if the conditions are more favorable than the weekday. If the conditions were going to be similar all week then yes I would say the fishing would be better on a Thursday or Friday after not being so pressured all week. Of course just my humble opinion 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 So Cal's public bass lakes are small less then 3 miles long narrow and deep. Most are recreational with water contact sports, wake boarders, jet skiers, general family run a bouts of all sizes. Weekends are a zoo all summer when local tournaments are also being contested. I would say that defines high pressured boating activity. Do the bass know their environment has hundreds of boats running over the top of them and anglers casting lures at them no dought they do. Week days the activity drops to maybe 25% of the weekend activity, but during the summer every type of boat is still out on the water just fewer in numbers. Do the bass notice the difference, who knows but fewer boats gives anglers more places to fish. Summer ends and the weekend activity drops to about the same as summer week days, still boating traffic. Week days during the off season the traffic drops further, still boating going on but fewer and fewer as the weather cools. The bass fishing improves greatly as the traffic drops to only dozens of boats. Rainy weather the boating traffic drops to a few diehards like me and we have the lake nearly to ourselves. The bass know they can feed any time they want without boats driving over them. Do they know it's a weekend or week day, I don't think so but they stay active a lot longer. Tom 3 Quote
