I bought some paddle holders (paddle clips) for my kayak at BPS. It came with 4 rivets. The instructions say to mark where you want to drill the holes and once the holes are drilled, insert the rivets and pop them on the boat using a blind rivet gun. Problem is I dont have a rivet gun, blind or not! My question is, can I use stainless steel screwes in place of the rivets? And if so, do I use threadlock and some type of sealant glue? And lastly, do I need some type of washer or rubber o-ring? I appreciate the input! Thanks

yes.. don't be afraid to put holes in your yak..  just use a rubber washer, and bolt the screws on.. then tighten the nut on the inside of your yak to be sure you don't rip off the holder.  plain screws might not be a good idea for something you handle so many times..  just my opinion..

For about the same price as stainless screws, nuts, and a tube of silicone you can buy a pop riveter (AKA blind rivet gun) from Lowe's, Ace, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc.

I think your right. Besides, I intend on attaching a few more items to the yak so I might as well have it. Good advice! Thanks

If you go the pop rivet route, use an extra large backing washer or plate.

I think it depends on the rivets you're using. If the paddle holders came with standard aluminum pop rivets, toss 'em in the trash and invest in a couple packs of these from kayakfishinggear.com

They hold very well in plastic hulls, and on a low/no stress item like a paddle holder they'll be more than adequate.

I probably should have mentioned that I dont have access  to the inside of the kayak. It doesnt have any hatches. I ordered some stainless steel screws and was planning on just screwing them on using a washer and some type of glue/sealant but now am debating wether I should use a rivet gun. Do I need access to the inside of the kayak if I use a rivet gun? And, what are well nuts? I appreciate the tips.
