Crazy news. I looked up Quantums pro staff and it looks like they are really starting to thin out, almost starting to look like okumas pro staff team. Both brands make great products and I use them myself, oh well.

My guess is that Quantum thinks the money paid to have people endorse there products are notworth the return they bring in terms of sales. I've never been persuaded to buy a product based on an endorsers name or opinion as they are being paid to back a product which may be good but could also be bad. Hope they make the right decision. Goodluck to Kevin as well

Good for Lew's & Good for KVD.

Now if he can string together some top finishes or even a few big wins using his new sponsors gear, like he did with that Quantum tackle, that could really be helpful.

btw - Quantum reels are the worst !

The guy that owns this collection must be out of his mind.

I wonder if his KVD line of Lews reels will have their Winn grips or the oversized paddle grips like the LFS, etc.  I can't bring myself to totally like either.

The fishing industry is one of the the most cut throat and competitive out there. An investment group acquired Lews and later Strike King.  Let the pros do their business thing and the rest of us can just go fishing.  Nice stable of very well cared for equipment A-Jay !!

Well 15+ years ago rumor was KVD was using Shimano made up to look like Quantum until their quality improved. Also supposedly Tiger used Mizuno clubs made to look like Nike until they got him clubs he approved of.

But really these days the South Korean made reels like Lews are pretty good and probably on par with Shimano or Daiwa.

Nike was known to use Miura forged wedges for their tour pros for a short time. Miura also made forged irons for Titleist and TaylorMade. It’s a pretty common rumor that the first set of Nike’s were really tooled by Miura and he played those until switching to the Vapor Pros. Some say his beloved Mizunos were also Miura.

Am I the only one that thinks that the pros using sub par brand rods and reels are actually using high end other stuff made to look like the sub par brand?

There’s been a few pro’s in the past that use a couple custom rods and put their sponsors stickers on em to avoid contract issues.

I don't care what he uses. I fish ABU, Shimano, Qauntum, and one Diawa. My next reel will be a Lews. After all these years, I know it's not the brand name, but where you fish with them that matters. All these company's make good reels. They'll all catch bass

Great news for Lew’s and KVD

I eagerly await the Mach KVD combos  they will be releasing for Icast 2020 (That’s my prediction)

Lews has been excellent in my hands. How anyone could say Lews is subpar is a something fanboy.

I recently bought two Ks and ordered a Bantam last night. I’m open minded. I also bought another brand reel which didn’t feel comfortable to me so I returned it.

For those who oppose Lews tell us why?

Same reason I don't prefer Flooger or Abu.  Form factor does not suit my hands, and I find the cranking side to be heavier and off balance compared to other brands.  It's my opinion, and nothing to do with being a fan boy.

A-Jay, I just picked up a Qauntum low profile casting reel. It's my first one. I love it.

I figured this was coming sooner or later. The vast majority of the Strike King pro team also use Lew's rods and reels. It makes zero difference to me and is all about $$$ for them.

Does anyone have any proof that pros use competitor rods or reels and put their sponsor labels on them? That sounds like nonsense to me.

This happens in many sports, fishing is no different.

I don't have dozens of reels like a lot of folks on BR, but of the handful I have two of them are Lew's. One cost me about $49 and the other cost me about $149 and I like them both.  The feel and the performance work for me and I have confidence in my gear. For me, that's what matters most.

When I add to my collection I'll look at Lew's again, Daiwa, Shimano, and anything else out there that has a reputation as a decent quality build and if it feels good I'll buy it. When it comes to my fishing gear I'm not brand loyal.

Now my baseball gloves, that's another story.

So the answer to my question is no, got it.

Lol, my thoughts exactly. There has been so much nonsense thrown around in this thread about fishermen and golfers disguising equipment. I don't believe it for a min.

Yeah, it just doesn't make sense to me and to suggest that a company would willingly take a product from a competitor, strip it down and put their logos on it is crazy.

I knew a rod builder who made a few custom spiral wrapped flipping sticks for a pro, who was coincidentally sponsored by Quantum, about 10-12 years ago but there was no attempt made to disguise it. It was what it was.

Lol, so from 1996 till 2002 he hit Titleist irons and then had Mizuno make him some incognito Nike's until they got it right? Glad I don't believe everything that's supposedly true.

I don’t believe “that guy” ? one bit, but tell him to send me couple so that I can prove or disprove them being the worst, lol. I have some cohos, kings and steelies in my neck of the woods.

My address is...lol

I recall seeing a guy fish with a quantum pt bc reel maybe 10 years or more ago targeting salmon on the puyallup river. It was effortlessly casting his rig 2 country miles. I was impressed. Just never seen them in my area locally so it’s a bit of a show stopper.

Good on KVD.

I know first hand of one pro that has done it. I doubt that it is as prevalent in fishing as in the real sports, but I'm sure it happens. So the answer to your question is yes.
