Lol par to me, means standard. If lews is NOT UP TO PAR... So is my Carhartt jacket (that I've had for 15 years)

Lew's and Carhartt, pretty much what I carry and wear every fishing trip!

@NYWayfarer my jacket won't die ! It's faded and the cuffs are pretty worn. But it's the real deal. Not the cheapest jacket by any means but no where near the most expensive. Similar to most lews reels.

He hasn't won any.  He's earned $24k in MLF.

KVD's own website claims 3 wins.

I never understood why he was with quantum for so long, but honestly, this isn't going to make me buy any lews

I met the KVD at a Bass Pro, really nice guy just like he is on TV, and he had people ask him for rod/reel recommendations and he took them straight to Quantum's products. Good salesman to have.

Or you can go to the MLF website and get accurate results.  Since leaving BASS and joining the Bass Pro Tour, he's won zero events, and racked up $24,000 in earnings.

His MLF wins were Cup and Select events a few years back. Before they added the BPT.

Maybe he actually liked them.

I like Adidas, dont care much for Nike. I get Nike has some top notch kicks but not my kinda preference.

Maybe KVD just liked Quantum and the fact they made him multiple reels with his brand name on them? When did daiwa or shimano ever put an anglers brand name on their products.

Probably NEVER have and NEVER will because they both build a superior product that stands on it's own merits and doesn't need a big name fisherman to hawk them to the public......

Some of the biggest names in the hockey stick industry have pro stocks, but I get what your saying. I own multiple shimanos and daiwa reels as well as quantum and lews. Love he different features that each brand brings to the table.

Actually, don’t some of the Daiwa Tatula Elite rods have Pro anglers names on them?

They were developed utilizing 6 pro designed models. So they had input and there names are in cursive on the blank.

Yep. Brett Erhler, or however you spell it, for one. But we are talking reels. And there may be reels endorsed as well, but I can't recollect it right off.....

Clunn, Hibdon, Nixon, and Brauer all had their own Daiwa rod in the 90s and Ike had his own line when he was with them.

Look, KVD is a pro athlete...period! As such they are allowed to become "free agents" after their current contracts are up...that's all this is, KVD was a free agent and Lews made him the best offer so he signed on with them. No different than an NFL player who's been with one team for many years becoming a free agent and signing with another team for more money. It's a business move for both parties involved, nothing more or less. I honestly don't understand all the bruhaha over this...this should have been a 1 or 2 page thread...4 pages...sheez :lol-045:. I like KVD, I think he's a good guy and I'm happy he's doing what is best for him and his family. As for Lews, they make a quality product and to say anything else is just silly. Pretty much all of the big name reel manufacturer's make good reels nowadays (just like in snowmobiles...I have owned Ski-doo's, Arctic Cat's, Yamaha's and Polaris...they all make good sleds). I'm sure there will be some cool new KVD Lews products coming out and it'll be fun to see them...not sure I'll buy them but it's always nice to see sweet new products!!!

I don't believe any reel was designed specifically for a pro but wouldn't doubt it

There's a Lew's cranking reel that David Fritts specified had a deep spool and the old style dog and bone anti reverse.  Abu tried to delete the AR switch from their spinning reels, but Ike demanded they leave it.

I would take a Lew's over a Quantum but since Lew's is not paying me and I have to buy

my own reels I will stay with Shimano and Daiwa, they are better made "more refined" then any other

company out there.

It's kinda like when Arron Martens went from Megabass to Enigma LOL.

It's all about the cash....

Exactly. DVT is correct. Shimano and Daiwa know they don't need to. Unfortunately, these pros don't move the needle. Quality products speak for themselves.

Pros will always move the needle.  I get that you guys are shimano and daiwa fans.  Not arguing they make good gear.  But honestly it just sounds arrogant every time I read how shimano and daiwa are far superior blah blah. Obviously by my handle on here I like shimano reels. Most of what I use currently is lews as I just like the way they feel and fish better than anything else at the moment.  Anyone who doesn't think kvd will sell lews product doesnt quite understand in my opinion.  Will seasoned anglers run out and buy a bunch of lews because of him? No. Will a bunch of kids who know he's the most decorated angler in history buy or ask for lews gear because of him? Absolutely
