Spinnerbait, crankbait, worm, jig it doesn't really matter. Spend the day learning to catch bass on that lure. Use your electronics to locate likely spots that hold bass. Stop and fish those spots with the lure type you've chosen for that day. Whether you catch fish or not, you've learned something. Most lures (except top water) can be fished in different depths and cover types. Learn to use the lure you chose for that day in each depth and type of cover. Have a learning experience out of the lake. Sometimes that doesn't translate to a "catching" experience but what you'll learn is invaluable. Flippin a jig is what I have been focused on as of the last week or so. I find myself mentally frustrated with the technique because I get bored. I am headed out on Friday and I am bringing nothing but flipping jigs. Quote
Titan Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 I've had the same experience! Flipping/pitching got boring for me at times. I've forced myself to keep going, concentrating on learning to feel the jig contacting the cover, hitting small spots (on the first try) and pitching cover or spots that I would normally skip over. I've learned a ton from it. 1 Quote

A Texas rig fishes the same way in the same places . The bites feel the same , the hook-sets are the same . I feel a Texas rig will get more bites . I like to pitch Yum Dingers with a 1/4 ounce weight in woody cover . Quote

I'm focused right now on perfecting techniques. I want to get better at fishing. I can always catch bass. I just want to be more proficient Quote
Cam R Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Top- whopper plopper, popper (bone color) mid depth- spinnerbait and paddletail swimbait bottom- wacky rig senko (5”), any sort of plastic worm will work for finicky fish 1 Quote
Bigassbass Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 The best lure is the lure you have confidence with and have caught fish on. Then start throwing something different so you have many lures you can use to catch fish. My all time favorite is a spinner, I've fished with it for 30 years and caught many fish, always my go to bait because I have confidence in it, I know how to throw it use it. Get to fishing and learn cause there is no magic lures. Quote

Prey always dictates bass location outside of the spawn cycle. Locate the predominate prey and the bass will be nearby. Lure selection should be something that replicates the prey the bass are feeding on and be able to be presented where the bass located. What lures replicate golden shiners? Top water bone color Spook walking lure and pearl white buzz baits. Shallow mid depth shiner color soft jerk baits and double willow bladed spinner bait with soft plastic shiner color trailer. These are high percentage lures in Florida. Large soft plastic worms replicate bottom critters everywhere, water snakes in Florida, and a good choice for wary FLMB. Weedless golden shiner swim baits like 3:16 Mission Fish is another consideration. Dangit this became its own tackle warehouse order; FLMB have been my nemesis recently. Tom are you in cahoots with the bait monkey? I was sure I had everything I needed, and then I read this post. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted October 23, 2019 Super User Posted October 23, 2019 Best of all time ...plastic worm, rapalas, mepps, spoons, grubs....covers it all 20 bucks all around the world salt and fresh.. Quote
Shimano_1 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 The only 2 baits I have tied on anywhere and everywhere I go are a jig and a senko. I fish and catch on a lot of other things but i feel confident in most situations i can catch em on some form of jig or senko. Ledges on ky lake....football jig or Carolina rig senko. Thick heavy vegetation...flip a jig in and around pockets or hip a finesse jig above it or fish a weightless or wacky rig senko. I honestly think a lot of the time I could do better on either of these and I choose to fish other things simply because I'm bored with the same things lol. I do agree with the above tho that everyone's situations are different so what works for me in my area may not at all be the best for others in different areas Quote
