5/0 Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 I've been looking to get a new pair of sunglasses for both fishing and would also use them for general use. I looked around and figured Costa 580G in green mirror would be my best bet. The price is steep, but after the initial shock I began thinking why not. I know a bunch of you have experience with the Costa's, but are there any of you that use the Eye Surrenders? Would appreciate any feed back! Joe Quote
BassCats Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 Never hear of eye surrender. I have used Oakley, Costa, and Wiley X. I prefer the Costa and Wiley X. I use the Wiley X when on plane as it protects my eyes more from debris or splashes. Quote
Harold Scoggins Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 ESS Crossbows, as of a few years ago they were being issued to our young troopers. If they're good enough for them, they're good enough for this old war horse. "Hoorah" 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 18, 2019 Super User Posted September 18, 2019 Will a $50 pair of glasses protect your eyes from a jig flying at you at 100mph? My Wileys will. 1 1 Quote

My Wileys will. My 'sunglasses' are clip-on - over my expensive, OSHA approved, poly-carbonate lens prescription glasses. 1 Quote

Tony johnson Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 I have been using bomber sunglasses lately... polarized, they float, and Osha approved polycarbonate lens.. also under 50 dollars Quote
swhit140 Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 My original Costa's that I bought many years ago have worked great. If I remember correctly they were under $150 at the time when I bought them. The lens on the first pair I owned were discoloring over many years of use. I contacted Costa and I just had to ship them in and they shipped me a new pair & case for warranty replacement. I would suggest buy a good pair that you can afford and give you the best fitment, protection you can reasonably afford. Quote

Unfortunately any Wiley X dealers around me are optometrists that deal with prescription lens only. I'll take the info in the video and use it to check out other brands. 2 hours ago, swhit140 said: My original Costa's that I bought many years ago have worked great. I did own a pair of Revos years ago in a blue mirror lens that I got at Sunglass Hut. Don't think that brand is around anymore. They were a good pair of sunglasses and lasted for years, until my wife sat on them?! Thanks for the ideas! Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 19, 2019 Super User Posted September 19, 2019 I picked up some Eye Surrenders last year based on TB's recommendations, and I've been really happy with them. I wear Costas most of the time, but I picked up the ESE's in amber since my Costas don't do well in early/late light. Can't beat Costas but the ESE's are a nice option at a fraction of the cost. CrankFate Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 I use iDrive polarized amber lenses. Not too dark, see into the water better than most polarized lenses. Not too expensive for when they break or get lost. https://www.izonesunglasses.com/iDrive-Polarized-Driving-Glasses-s7386.html Quote

The Bassman Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 I get my prescription ones online from Zenni. Price is a fraction of retail and they're really good quality. Quote
Mikeltee Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 If you are the type of guy to sit on, lose, break sunglasses then go to walmart and get some $7 strike kings. If you want an investment, spend $100 and they will last you a lifetime. I own both. The costas fit much better and look better. It maybe the placebo effect but they seem to offer clearer vision as well. My 7yo daughter doesn't complain about wearing my strike kings. Buy it cheap buy it twice. Quote
5/0 Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 With the Costas is there a significant difference between the blue mirror and green mirror when fishing? I ask because I would be using them for general all around use also. Joe Quote

Blue is slightly better on bright sunny days, Green is slightly better on cloudy partially overcast type days but really not much different. Quote
James Krack Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 I recently went with Swans (Swanz on zenmarket) and could not be happier. They address comfort with better materials and weight. All other sunglasses are measured in ounces. Swans is measured in grams. Been making glasses and the like for over 100 years. You can find them here and there on ebay and amazon but I think the best bet is to join zenmarket and shop yahoo.jp. There are not many green and amber shades but plenty of grey, black and smoke. I did find an amber/green pair but it took me a while. With shipping I spent around $300 for both pairs. They are heads and tails above the rest including big money oakley, costa, and maui jim. Quote
