So I drove a hour to buy a GLX spinning rod and came how without one.  Crazy?  Nope the reel seat felt terrible in my hands with a reel on it.  I was able to make a few casts and it just felts awkward.  It's to thick for my small digits.  So I also picked up an IMX pro and it has a smaller reel seat that felt just right. It's more like the e6 rods we just received.

So those of you that have fished both would you deal with the reel seat, in my case, for the difference in sensitivity?  I use braid to flouro leader on my spinning outfits if that makes a difference.

Thanks

i havent fished with the GLX but i know it has a custom reel seat that a lot of folks do not like

the IMX Pro and E6X rods use a Fuji reel seat which is much better. Cant understand why Loomis insists on doing this all the time. Remember what happened with the first generation of custom reel seats on the NRXs? a disaster.

Fished and owned GLX, IMX, E6X, NRX, and conquest. The 842S in GLX is one of my favorites. Love the reel seat but I may have larger hands too. To me the imx is a great stick but I feel the sensitivity does not match GLX. Conquest handle is smaller than the GLX in diameter but is it worth the extra coin .....up to you.

I've never fished a GLX but own several IMX pros and I really love the reel seat, my hands are small too.

I have a 783c GLX, my nephew has a 783c E6X.  If I could take the hardware from his rod and stick it on mine I would do it in a second.  I love the rod to death in spite of the reel seat and overly long handle, but I really wish Loomis made some different choices with the new GLX line.

I own the e6x, 2 imx pros, 3 glx’s and 2 nrx’s. as for casting I don’t notice the glx reel seat nearly as much it in the spinning it is my least favourite reel seat of the bunch. Thank Christ the nrx’s doesn’t feel that way otherwise I’d be super upset!

The imx pro’s I feel are a massive step above the e6x and well worth the coin!! The glx’s surely are impressive, and one of my favourite sticks on the market as far as power, sensitivity and balance goes. I’m not sure I’ll buy another spinning one though as the reel seat does bother me (not enough to sell it but to step up to the nrx). Like I mentioned the casting feel fine to me. The nrx aren’t a huge step up to the glx but is an improvement! The sensitivity is excellent but balance isn’t as good, and don’t like the recoil guides as much!

I have a few Loomis rods across their lineup and you made a fine choice. The IMX Pro is a nice step up from the prior generation IMX, and it's more important to have a quality rod you're comfortable fishing with (IMX) than a little higher quality rod you're uncomfortable fishing with (GLX).

Well thanks I guess .... LOL

I may buy the GLX and see how it feels.  I don't think I would lose much selling it if I don't like it.  I could buy one of each and see which one I end up with.

If I am fishing bottom baits I pretty much use only spinning equipment so the reel seat is a big deal to me.

I bought 2 loomis imx's pfd a buddy whom was looking for money.  Sure enough I hate the way they feel in my hand. Great handling sticks and very sensitive.  Just can't get used to them.

one thing that is worth noting is that the current generation IMX Pro rods are available in the MBR 903 and SJR902 tapers (ie 7'6 rods) that I do not believe the GLX's are. if you like the extra length the IMX Pros have that option. The GLX MBR and SJR rods top out at 7 feet.

Once i started using the 7'6 rods i fell in love.

That is a very good point!  Thanks for mentioning it.

Never fished them, but at that price point and quality, does it really matter and are you really gaining a lot?

The feel matters to me.  I ended up with two GLX rods and they are super sensitive, in fact they are insanley sensative compared to anything I have ever owned.  The reel seats are so big though it may be just too uncomfortable in the long run.  I'm going back this weekend to buy one of the IMX pros.  Either way I like to have one feel in a rod so there will be a posting in the "for sale" at some point ?

The conquest handle is the best I have felt in a long time, I'm also not a big fan of the GLX handle.

But the GLX 842c is one of my favorite all time blanks....it has that "IT" factor.

I own the GLX 893 and 894. Phenomenal rod in terms of sensitivity. Balance isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough that you don’t notice it much.

The only remedy I’ve found for the uncomfortable reel seat is to use a smaller profile reel. I put a curado 70 on both rods and they’re now my favorite combos to fish with.

If you're using braid than the sensitivity point is moot.  No difference between either in that scenario..  They're both excellent rods and pretty similar in terms of weight.   You made a good choice.
