Super User tcbass Posted September 14, 2019 Super User Posted September 14, 2019 I've been doing my best to not buy any new tackle as I have new tackle that's never been out of the box. Last year I mostly bought replacement tackle such as Senkos and Zoom Super Flukes. Although I did buy a bunch of frogs to experiment with when I was making Homemade Whopper Frogs. Last year the only new lures I bought were 2 Berkely Choppos and 2 Whopper Plopper 75's; both worked awesome. The WP 75 my favorite Whopper Plopper and the Choppo also worked well and at 1/2 the cost of the WP. I'm a topwater fanatic am willing to accept 2 topwater bites over 10 regular bites. My favorite topwaters are the Whopper Plopper and Homemade Whopper Frog/Teckel Sprinker Frog. This year I only bought Senkos and what I needed to make Homemade Whopper Frogs. I had to buy Homemade Whopper Frog parts because I gave all of mine away to friends because they were working so well. I hope I bought enough! At least I can say I finally beat the Bait Monkey. 2 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 14, 2019 Super User Posted September 14, 2019 So what yer sayin' is what's in the box has nothing to do with the Bait Monkey. Good on ya, mate! 1 Quote

Good on ya, mate! If I didn't lose Senkos, Super Flukes, and give frogs away I wouldn't have had to buy anything. Flukes and Senkos are like gas, an expendable resource that constantly needs replenishing every year. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 15, 2019 Super User Posted September 15, 2019 No one Beats the Bait Monkey. We can only hope to marginally contain him. A-Jay 4 3 Quote

Super User king fisher Posted September 15, 2019 Super User Posted September 15, 2019 You may have won the battle, but you haven't won the war. The Bait Monkey still lives. 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted September 15, 2019 Super User Posted September 15, 2019 The bait-monkey is sneaky. The bait-monkey is insidious. The bait-monkey will NOT be denied in the end. All you can do is postpone the inevitable. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted September 15, 2019 Super User Posted September 15, 2019 I have been pretty good at beating the bait money this year, only replacing lures that I lost (that work and are worth replacing) but talk to me after Tackle Warehouse's black friday special. I plan on buying all the line I need (aside from my fluorocarbon -- can't beat BPS's buy one get one free on Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon) but I don't need too many new lures. I bought new storage boxes and a new Bass Mafia tackle bag, lures to full all the new space and it's mostly full so I will be buying mostly a few backups I can leave at home for lures I tend to lose often -- mainly jigs and that's all I really need. I need to get better at actually catching bass on the lures I do have. I did so well last year (especially considering I was knocked out on chemo) but this year, tactics that produced for me have not produced. Quote
Brad Reid Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 "I have been pretty good at beating the bait money this year, only replacing lures that I lost (that work and are worth replacing) . . ." Are you experiencing any headaches, developing rashes, hard stools, suffering moments of confusion and despondency? Ha! Ha! Seriously, yes to what you say. Each year I fish, I determine what I need a bit better, narrow it down, less tempted by the bait monkey. My purchases now increase, year over year, arithmetically, not geometrically. I'll take what I can get. Feed the bait monkey, or the symptoms I laid out above will seem mild in comparison. Brad Quote
Super User king fisher Posted September 15, 2019 Super User Posted September 15, 2019 I went on guided trip last week. All we did was punch heavy cover. Best bass fishing day of my life. 58 bass between 3 and 7 pounds. Of course I don't have any gear for punching. Now I have to explain to my wife how all the thousands of dollars of fishing gear I own wont work at my new fishing spot. The bait monkey and my wife are going to have their biggest battle yet. She can usually hold her own against the monkey, but this time I hope the monkey wins. After I get all the new punching gear, I promise to only replace what I loose. 1 Quote

Super User MIbassyaker Posted September 15, 2019 Super User Posted September 15, 2019 The bait monkey can only be defeated by another, greater obsession....and even then only temporarily, as he never truly goes away, but lurks in the shadows for the right moment to strike again... Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 15, 2019 Super User Posted September 15, 2019 A dozen frogs and Tinkler tailsis losing to the bait monkey. Tom 1 Quote
