JFlynn97 Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 I've been sorta in the market for another "all purpose rod," that is, a rod that can be used for a somewhat large variety of lures with success (ideally spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, paddletail swimbaits/swimjigs, some topwater like buzzbaits, maybe lipless cranks and bottom baits in a pinch). Currently I'm looking at the Okuma Scott Martin Signature TCS casting rod, the 7' medium-heavy/moderate-fast model. Do you guys think this might match my needs? I'm looking at this rod specifically because it's on sale on tacklewarehouse ($130), but I'm open to any other ideas in a similar price range. Thanks in advance! Quote
Derek1 Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 It might, I’m probably in the minority but I like to throw spinnerbaits on my fury 705cb($120). I’ve used it for small swimbaits also it did fine. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 13, 2019 Super User Posted September 13, 2019 I think this rod was designed to be a general purpose rod. I would check on the price though. I have seen these for around $100 on Amazon. Quote
r83srock Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Do I think that rod will match your needs? Yup! I use 7’ ish fast rods for a lot of things, works for me. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 13, 2019 Super User Posted September 13, 2019 Wow. Found a 7' M-MF for $88.80. I've read these rods a very good for the money. I need another rod like a hole in the head, but this is kind of hard to pass up. I couldn't find a good deal on the 7' MH-MF. I like its lure range....provided it is accurate....better than the M-MF rod. I only have one M-MF rod and that is a 7'2" HMG. The TCS should be a better rod. Looking like I need another M-MF rod. Thanks a lot for the post...........not. Quote

I also throw spinnerbaits as well as chatter baits, swimjigs (light wire), spooks ploppers, cranks and jerks with it, underrated rod imo, very versatile. Quote

Yup, it’s great for what I wanted it for and a few other things. Can’t go wrong for the price. Throw a dc reel on it and it gets even more fun. Quote
GeekOutdoors Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I have that exact rod ! Bought it for chatter/spinnerbaits but end up using it for plopper topwater clones (Choppo) Quote
Fishaholic7lbs Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 I will suggest a falcon bucoo sr 7ft mh mod fast.. its a sweet little rod and can be used for tons of applications.. Quote
LionHeart Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 A medium heavy moderate fast rod can do just about anything. Never used an Okuma rod but academically you are in the strike zone. Own the Bucoo SR medium heavy and yeah, an excellent, excellent rod for the $. Close to a medium power though. Quote
