Line breaking

I just respooled my Daiwa Tatula 100h with Trilene xl 14lb. For some reason my line keeps breaking. I can cast one time maybe then the second time my lure will just fly off and the line is broke about 6” above the lure. This is a relatively new reel. It’s aggravating

Take a q-tip or cotton ball and check the inside of all your rod guide eyes for a nick or burr. Also the rod tip eye insert may have came out. I've had both cause that in past

How'd you determine that? Is the line curly at the end?

Cotton Q-Tip the fibers get snagged by any guide rings that are cracked. Also check the narrow slot line giude in the T-Wing for grooves.

What knot are you using?

It's easy to test line strength by simply wrapping the line around your hands, leave about 12" inches between the hands and snap them apart. 12 lb mono shouldn't break easily, if it does it's bad line.

Curl at the break indicates the line has flattened from poor knot, prior backlash being pulled out, damage using the line etc.

Yes sometimes the line is curly and I know because I retrieved my lures (had to swim some lol). I just know one knot and am learning the loop knot but my knot is the regular improved cinch knot

Improved clinch knot is a good choice. Like all knots the clinch knot should be tied properly. 14 lb mono use anywhere from 5 to 7 twist, wet the knot before snugged tight by pulling on tag end. Look at the finished knot and line above and close to the knot for any shinny spots that indicate flattened line.

You are better off using a quality snap or clip then a weak loop knot.

I think it’s my line. I’m going to change it when I get home to the only other line I have. The suffix omega  12lb. But if it’s not my line or guide rings. What else could it be?

Is your reel staying in free spool throughout the cast? If it is jumping out of free spool during the cast, the instant stop could definitely cause your line to snap.

Was the line taken off another reel or filler spool?

The line came off the store bought spool of line. As for it being in free spool. Idk what that means. I’ve been trying to learn this reel. But it’s hard to understand how much brake I need to how much should I adjust the knob on the side. 

But I came home and I cleaned all the guide rings and Q-tipped the t-wing. I did notice the t-wing was really loose so I tightened the knob under it.... is that right? I also pulled quite a bit of line off and tied a rattle trap with no hooks and was casting in the yard. It seemed to do alright. It didn’t break one time (yet) but I know as soon as I tie my whopper plopper on and try to fish it’ll snap and I’ll have to swim again

Free spool means reel crank is not engaged so reel can cast. That's what happens whenn you push spool release button.the knob on the side should be adjusted so the lure falls slowly when you hold the rod out straight and hit free spool. The dial on the other side is another brake. Turn it up all the way then back it off until it starts to backlash.thats where you start using your thumb. I think you may be backlashing due to improper adjustment. This would cause your line to stop and your line could break from the force of your cast.eventually your thumb gets better and you can loosen your brakes. Or you could always buy a Lews Tournament Pro with a 27 position centrifugal brake. That reel set up properly never backlashes.
