I don’t fish senkos wacky very much usually Texas rigged and was wondering if I could use a 2/0 or 3/0 Ewg hook for wacky and if I want to throw it in cover just rig it Texas style with the same hook? I know wide gap finesse hooks are popular for wacky but was wondering if anybody used Ewg for wacky rigs?

thanks

For me it depends on the length of the senko. As a Texas rig on a 5" senko I use a 4/0 hook. On a 4" I use a 2/0 hook. On the rare times I fish them wacky I use a Gamakatsu 2/0 hook made for wacky rigging with a weed guard. I would be worried about getting hung up a lot using standard EWG hooks for wacky rigging.

You can totally do that. I'd use 3/0 for 5" senko . I think 4/0 is too big and 2/0 is slightly too small but I would lean toward the 2/0 if I had to pick between just those two.

You definitely can do that and I've caught alot of bass doing just that when I had only one outfit with me bank hopping. I've caught some nice ones wacky rigging with the 3/0 ewg.

Some people want a rod for everything and that's just not ideal or even possible for some people and their situations. Make the most of what you have and where you are at.

I use a 3/0 EWG hook for most of my wacky worms.  From my experience a little larger hook prevents swallowed hooks.

I have stopped using EWG for them and went to a round end offset and have better success

What specifically do you use?

Great post. Been rigging with the wacky hooks and have wondered if others have been doing differently.

Yeah this is exactly why I was asking because I fish ponds 90% of the time and don’t feel like dragging 5 poles with me. I tried a small circle hook but they seem like they swallow it 50% of the time I know I should set the hook earlier but even when I set it early it hooked them deep seemed like.

If you're using a circle hook you don't set the hook with the rod you just reel and the hook sets itself.

3/0ewg will do you just fine for your purposes I assure you. Texas rig for the thicker stuff and wacky where it's more open. Even tho the weightless Texas does just as well in the open , snapping it around like a jerkbait and on the fall.

I don't know why, but I found that I got better hooksets with straight(er?) shank worm hooks for stick worms.

Doesn't mean you can't use ewg -- especially if you'll also be wanting to throw some beavers or flukes without re-tying.

I will say that I've never wacky rigged an ewg, but no reason you can't try it.

My personal solution would be to buy and find a way to carry three more rods :)
