TriStateBassin106 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I started to get into heavy drop shot fishing since fall is around the corner and the fish are being tough to catch, only problem is I got these big gama octopus hooks by accident at walmart and I don't think they are gonna work. (I looked for any finesse hooks) Can someone send me any links to the actual type of hooks I should be using for this application? For Drop shot plastics I only really use worms like the zoom finesse or maybe a paddletail swimbait. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 7, 2019 Super User Posted September 7, 2019 Ton of solid choices out there, but my two main preferences are the Aaron Martins Gamkatsus and the Owner Mosquito Light when going with real light test. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gamakatsu_Aaron_Martens_TGW_Drop_Shot_Hook_6pk/descpage-SFH.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Mosquito_Light_Hooks/descpage-OML.html Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 7, 2019 Global Moderator Posted September 7, 2019 I've been using the Owner heavy cover in a 1/0 and completely sold on them. Academy had them on sale here for $3 a packs and I bough about a dozen packs, they're normally $5 a pack. Quote
BoatSquirrel Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 I love nose hooking with a drop shot but every place I fish is full of wood and I was breaking off a lot. Texas rigging with Roboworm Rebarb hooks has worked for me. Every major hook company has a similar design too. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted September 8, 2019 Super User Posted September 8, 2019 Owner Mosquito, Gammi Dropshot/Splitshot and Gammi Extra Wide finesse. I have some Robo Rebarbs but have yet to use them. Quote
5/0 Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 Gammi D/S. Gonna try VMC Spinshot to see if they match up. With the Gammis I use #1 and 1/0. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 8, 2019 Super User Posted September 8, 2019 Owner cutting point hooks. Quote

As much as I wanted to like and actually had some really good results with the little Gamakatsu swivel hooks, and nose hooking plastics, my hook-up and landing ratio went through the roof when I converted to Roboworm Rebarb hooks using a variety of sizes (usually a 1 or 1/0) to best match my plastics. Small roboworms work well for me but I also like to give fish the option to munch on a shad-like plastic. Anything Keitech makes will work. Brad Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted September 8, 2019 Super User Posted September 8, 2019 I tried a bunch and I narrowed it down to 1 hook. The Owner Mosquito hook just works for me but I also like the Gamakatsu drop shot and Octopus hooks and the Trokar drop shot hook. Quote

The 3/0 ones are great for general t-rigging most thinner worms too. 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 8, 2019 Super User Posted September 8, 2019 The octos are close enough to use if you’re out of DS specific hooks if you can’t return them. I’ve been using a barbless version to make cnr easier when drop shotting. I use mostly owner mosquito or gammy split shot/drop shot hooks because they are excellent but also because they’re pretty much what is available locally. Quote
