Shif29 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 I’m using a 7’3” fury right now my for my jigs and texas digs and it’s working just fine. I’m selling it to a buddy and buying another rod to use for jigs and t-rigs but I am unsure on whether to buy another 7’3” or 7’6”. I am about 5’11” if that has anything to do with it. what do you guys think would be better from a comfort and accuracy standpoint? 1 Quote
aPaul19 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 I'm a little shorter than you so personally I don't go any longer than about 7'4 for all my rods. I have a lot of 7'3 rods and that's what I use to throw jigs on like you were. For me that's a good length but naturally everyone will feel differently. I would say if the 7'3 was comfortable than stick with that, hope that helps! Quote

freelancer27 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Yeah, the length of the rod has the following impact (All things being equal): * the longer the rod the longer the cast * the longer the rod the more hook setting ability * sensitivity declines the longer the rod I would recommend you to go with a shorter rod in your case. I dont see any real benefit of 3 additional inches. Quote
Mikeltee Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 I dont think you will notice a difference between 3" unless you take a rod and cut 3" off the tip. Just get whatever you like and dont sweat the details. If you are stuck between the 2 rods read the reviews and match the one that seems more your type, but regardless of their opinions, there wont be much of a difference if they are the same power and action from the same manufacturer. You need to be upgrading to the champion line though and get rid of that broomstick. You can thank me later for that tidbit of advice. Quote

I've settled on a 7' for jigs, but it really boils down to preference. I know the trend is to longer rods right now, but I always choose the shortest (and slowest and least powerful) rod that will get the job done. Quote

If you want accuracy use the shorter length rod, longer casting distance learn how to cast properly, longer rod length may increase casting distance if you are a skilled caster to start with. I use 6'10" jig & worm rods and my average jig casting distance is between 40 to 50 yards. How far away can you detect a jig strike? Tom 4 Quote

Like mentioned above usually shorter lengths are more sensitive as long as is the same series of rods. And they will balance better too. Which will add to the sensitivity. Quote

Have a falcon bucoo 73h also have both duckett ghosts 73 mh and h. I have 7’6” rods as well but I mostly use them for flipping and throwing A rigs.. people saying height has nothing to do with rod length but I have had some 8 footers and they definitely have there place I’m just more comfortable with a 7’3” rod Quote

I'm 5'10 and a 7'6" rod works great for me. Never really understood the whole matching the rod length to your height thing. Quote

Matt_3479 Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 I currently fishing jigs and t-rigs on 7’1”, 7’5” and 7’6” rods. Depending on the exact application and environment, I like one more so over the other. My favourite would have to be towards the longer two rods. The 7’5” is probably my most used and I love it. The longer rod definitely gets better hook sets, better for fighting the fish and controlling them around lay downs and docks, better for getting them in the boat (boat flipping), longer casts if needed. The 7’1” is nice in tighter quarters, lighter jigs, a good follow up rod! Quote
