Pretty much what you said- newer.

The tournament mg was based off the original tournament pro frame. It was smooth and cast great but a little heavy. Great reel for heavier applications.

The tournament mb is off the LFS frame. Smaller and lighter. I wouldn't call it a finese reel but rather a all purpose reel.

Both are great reels and priced almost the same around $140 for the mb and $150 for the older mg.

I’m pretty sure the Mb has dual braking on the lfs frame and the mg has magnetic only on the earlier series frame.

I prefer the tournament or tournament pro. They had the earlier series frame and dual braking.    Earlier series reels seemed more durable / longer life and I like how the larger frame fit in my hand.

Well I own both and like both very much. I have found the MG on sale for $78 new as opposed to the MBs on sale for roughly $30 more. So I wasn’t sure what actual differences there were in the reels. I love em both, they are great. Just curios as to the differences whether it be bearings or drag or what not.

The Tournament MP is new for 2020 , it's replacing the Tournament MB. The MP has their P2 Super Pinion.

P2 super pinion, lol, love it. Something Daiwa and Shimano have been doing standard for decades.

Just purchased an MB my second one. Right know they seem to be on sale. Good price for a dual brake aluminum framed reel. Where are you finding the MGs I have one I bought a while back, but can' find them anywhere.

At boostr, the site wouldn’t load again so I believe it was an old page... but I did come to learn that the main difference is the dual braking system. Great reels either way but those MBs are super nice.

I’ve got one MB. It really is a hell of a reel. Not heavy, super smooth and it casts great. An excellent value. I’ve used mine one a number of rods with different line and baits. The reel performance is outstanding.
