The Maestro Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 (edited) Good? Bad? Doesn't matter? I've got some tungsten weights where the paint has mostly chipped off. I still want to use them as they're too expensive to just throw away. Do you guys think it really makes any difference? Edit: Looks like I posted in the wrong sub. Please move to the tackle sub. Thanks Edited September 4, 2019 by The Maestro Wrong sub forum Quote
JLewis134 Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Personally, I do not think its makes a big difference if its chipping. People fished with unpainted lead weights for years. Most things are more in the heads of particular fishermen. 3 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted September 4, 2019 Super User Posted September 4, 2019 Makes a huge difference. That's why I am developing a proprietary design to come up with a clear tungsten weight. Bass will never bite a piece of plastic hanging from a hook on braided line with a colored weight. You must use fluorocarbon line as bass are SUPER line shy. I'm also working on clear hooks to really fool them. 2 3 Quote

Don’t bother with transparent hooks. I already developed invisible hooks. Well, they’re actually made of such dense material that they bend light such that they’re practically invisible. Only downside is don’t bother looking for them if you drop them on the ground. 1 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 4, 2019 Global Moderator Posted September 4, 2019 You guys crack me up!! OP No, it doesn't matter. I have 1/2 doz or so 3/4-1 1/2 oz punch weights and a few red hooks that are chipped and don't hesitate to use either. If you're really concerned about it, you can paint them with nail polish then coat with some clear epoxy. Mike 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted September 4, 2019 Super User Posted September 4, 2019 I bought some unpainted weights from BPS. They are fairly bright silver color. I haven't used them much yet. I wish they had been a duller flat color. After seeing the color I wish I had gotten the painted ones. Quote
