Heron Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Using braided line with hollow body frogs is a definite must. however, if your using mono or fluorocarbon, you can do well by putting a split ring on the frog, and tying the line to that. this allows enough “play” to bring out much of that walk the dog action 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Before braid hit the scene many years agoI was fishing frogs with 20lb mono and it worked pretty well. I have converted to 50lb Sufix 832 like every one else, but looking back on those days I was happy with the heavy mono. Quote

I have definitely caught fish on a Hollow Body Frog with mono as well for sure, but 100% use braid now as most do. Quote
scbassin Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 On the Potomac I am with you on the heavy mono. I did switch to copoly which I still use today while frog fishing. I like a little bit of stretch on a hook set. I feel it helps protect my rod tips some. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted September 7, 2019 Super User Posted September 7, 2019 I've been using a mono leader, and tying a loop knot. I like the split ring idea. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 OOPS, missed split ring part. I don't use one, but don't see why not except for a poppin frog. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted September 10, 2019 Super User Posted September 10, 2019 I have been using an Decoy Egg Snap on my frogs this year and really really like it for two reasons. First, A lot of the areas I fish have varied cover and I will often swap between a walking frog, a dragging frog, and a paddletail frog depending on where I am casting. Secondly, I have a rod that I really like using for frogs as it is perfect in every single way except for that the tip is not super conducive to walking them, but the snap makes it a breeze to walk pretty much anything clipped to the end of it. Derek1 Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Can’t catch a fish on a frog or toad to save my life. Not a single hit. Quote

schplurg Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I caught a bullfrog with a frog last week. Only strike I've had with one so far. Quote
