Still figuring out my bassboat.  I think I'm getting a good bit of water in my bilge because the hole with the screw cap on it (right in front of the motor) doesn't seal well.  I'm sure I can fix it, but I don't know what it is called.  About six inches across?  Thanks.

Yeah, that looks like it.

Could be the splashwell?

Sounds like there's no drain in the splashwell/motorwell and it's building up enough to leak through the access hatch. I'd put a new drain that exits the transom to keep that water level low.

There are two drains in the splashwell on either side of the motor, but the rubber seal on the access hatch has rotted away so I think It's getting in when I come off plane and the water rushes in.

Well, make sure those drains aren't plugged - I found that out the hard way on my old runabout. Then I think it's time for a new access-hatch cover.

Not trying to mean or anything or trying to tell ya how to run a bass boat I know that is considered a splash box but you are supposed to slow down first so that the water  doesn’t rush over the transom kinda hard to explain slow down then kinda feather engine not just pull up to a spot and shift into neutral and kill the engine

Or turn the bilge pump on. A lot of setups come with the pump and or switch set up too high and you end up having water in there. Not a big deal if you just park in a slope and pull the plug at the end of the day.

I ran a bead of vaseline around the seal and I had way less water in the bilge today.  I never open the thing, so I may just silicone it.

The only time I have run the bilge pump was last month when I forgot to put the drain plug in.  Worked fine.  I tried it yesterday and I think it isn't working.  Not sure why so I'll have to dig into that.

Might want to investigate that before you seal up the access hatch. Might just be the way to access your pump. ?

Yes, I did think of that, but it's really too small to be useful other than to peek in, and I can get to the pump from the main hatch.

The cap/cover is there for a reason, replace the seal.

To reduce water coming over the transum when stopping or slowing  down quickly simply make a slow turn to one side so the wake doesn't follow directly onto the transum.

Probably will have to replace the whole hatch.  It's like 12 bucks.

@billmac, sounds like cheap insurance to me and one less thing to worry about
