waymont Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 Anyone use a Kistler Helium 3 Heavy, I'm looking at the 7' heavy while it's on sale. A few reviews on the Kistler site mention it seems lighter than expected for a heavy action rod. I want to use it jigs, T rigs, and up to 1 1/2oz glide baits which is at the top of the lure rating. Any hands on experience is appreciated. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 2, 2019 Super User Posted September 2, 2019 I have the 7'-3" HExF model. It will handle everything you mentioned. It is very light in hand. You won't be disappointed with it. Quote

They are one of the lightest rods on the market and can sometimes be a pain to find a reel to balance well with. I have found if your a stickler on a perfect balanced rod a reel sub 7oz is what you want. Anything heavier will make it heavier towards the reel. Quote

I have Tatula's at just around 7oz and a few Curado K that are around the same. I like my rods to be with the tip floating (I guess that's what you mean by heavier towards the reel) My LMH Kistler has the perfect balance for me, but I'm looking for a heavier 7' rod now. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 2, 2019 Super User Posted September 2, 2019 My 7-3 balances just in front of the hook hanger with a bantam mgl xg which weighs 7.8oz. Quote

I use a Tatula and STX at the moment in my Heliums which are both 7oz and balance exactly how you want it to. In a natural fishing position the rod tip will sit slight up 1 Quote

newyorktoiowa57 Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 IMO the balance of my 73LMH is not very good. Quote

bwjay Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I have the 6'8LMHF, 6'9MHXF, and 7'HXF. The LMHF with a Bantam balances just in front of the EVA foregrip/reel seat screw and is the best balanced H3 I have. The MHXF and HXF balance further away from the foregrip with a Bantam. Yes, these are slightly tip heavy rods. I imagine the 7'3HXF would be similar to the 7'HXF. Put a heavier reel on it to balance it out. The Bantam is an excellent choice. 2 Quote
RichF Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I have the 7ft heavy paired with a Tat SV. It's awesome. I use mine mostly for skipping 1/2 oz jigs around docks and wood. I've also tossed 3/4 oz jigs with it. The rod has plenty of power. 1 Quote

I picked up the H3 6’9” XF earlier this summer and love it for T-Rigs / Jigs. Would be putting a Curado K on it. Quote
