Jmp_37 Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 While holding my tatula sv I noticed a sound inside of it when I shook it and sounded like something loose. Took the side plate off and still made the sound, removed the spool and this little black piece broke in two pops out. What piece is this? Is it important? Quote
Super User webertime Posted August 27, 2019 Super User Posted August 27, 2019 Is it the cover of the worm gear? Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Would really like to see these pieces in focus. Try putting the black pieces on lined paper if hard to get them in focus. Maybe a ruler by the chunks to get an idea of size. (Funny thing is if they were in the area "under" the spool, there's really nothing that I can think of that could break off like this.) Karl Quote
Falkus Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 every part is important. You would need to take more pictures of the worm gear section to determine if that is the part. Quote
Jmp_37 Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 What exactly is the worm gear? Lol 35 minutes ago, diehardbassfishing said: Would really like to see these pieces in focus. Karl The pieces are very small and look as if they were together at one point. Just plastic cylinder shaped pieces Quote
Jmp_37 Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Figured out what happened. Plastic piece inside with two prongs on the end that broke. Taking it to get repaired tommorow Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted August 27, 2019 Super User Posted August 27, 2019 If the spool inductor spins freely then those are the inductor block dogs you're looking at. No repair parts available. You'll need to order a new spool from Daiwa. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Please post what the repair people find. I remember seeing something similar when I took one of my reels apart, but never thought anything of it. I think it's the reel that sounds really rough, despite extra greasing. Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 No dogs in an SV spool. Karl 1 Quote
Jmp_37 Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Took it to Thorne Bros. Hoping they don’t charge me for a full new spool... Quote

If the pins fell out when you removed the spool it's probably the inductor block ramp. If you're able to spin the gold anodized ring attached to the spool then you'll know that part has failed. Normally it can move in and out and rotate/twist slightly on it's axis, but not spin. If you look at the spool hub opposite of the inductor you'll see two small holes spaced 180°. Those holes are where the pins go through it in order to lock the ramp in position. While the part is shown on the schematic, they don't sell it seperately. The spool is 44$ plus shipping from Daiwa. They may honor a warranty repair if it's still in force. 1 Quote

That’s exactly what it is, but what if the gold piece does not spin? Should I just not worry about it? Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 I see it now - looking at the parts diagram. It's the base ramp that is broken (connected to the spool). The mating ramp connects to the inductor. The base ramp has pins that keep it from spinning free (a one piece part). I wonder if there is a mechanical issue that made the inductor jam - this would easily cause these pins to get sheared off. I'd like to think under any normal use, these pins would never break off. Karl The (gold) inductor likely spins free if the ramp base pins are broken. This would defeat the Mag brake. No Mag brake force. 1 Quote

Really weird, my friend came to my house with his 4 tatulas and three of them had broken pins... Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Geeez, is this SV design "flying too close to the Sun". I know the ol' Magforce Z spool is not fragile! Karl Quote
