Just bought some new Cavitrons... what’s your favorite trailer or do you go without..?

I switch off between trailer-less or having a Rage Bug on it.

I tend not to use any trailers because they hold it down and you have to burn it too fast for it to plane.

Anyone throw a horny toad on as a trailer?

Every buzzbait I get, skirt comes off, horny toad goes on. Easier to skip, easier profile for the bass to grab. War Eagle Buzz Toad comes that way straight out of the package and it's ?.  Use a buzzbait that was a wider head and you won't have any problems getting it to plane quickly and the drag from the horny toad let's you creep it along the surface.

Marcus Y. Is spot on!!   I like the War Eagle buzz toad as well.  I actually like a Kalins Sizmic toad lately.  Smaller, lighter, and decent kicking.  Haven’t tried them all yet, still experimenting.  The War Eagle comes with the Yum toad now. They are good as well.  Jacob Wheeler has said having that plastic on a buzzbait gives bass something realistic to hold onto.

I either us a skirt or a swim bait , not both . I picked up some Yum Money Minnows on clearance and they performed  well .The lure  cast farther and retrieved slower with a great hook-up ratio . Still used a trailer hook , even with the swimbait .

I do not use very big buzz baits. It does not work out for me very well. I use the 1/8 oz. Mini Pro Buzz and the 1/8 oz. tru-wings by Strike King. They draw more attention for some reason or another. I had been using a trailer but recently switched to using a Zoom 4” Curly Tail worm. I bit off shortening about an inch off the body and keep the long tail on it and it has gotten a few fish as of lately.

Not as a trailer, but I've thrown a buzzbait with just a toad and it works pretty well. I like the extra weight, helps a lot with casting accuracy.

I got a wild idea and put a 3.8 Swing Impact Fat in bluegill flash on the back of a black SK buzzbait and it has worked extremely well for me this summer, in light, and also night fishing.

Probably not the cheapest alternative but hard to argue with success.

I tried using a skirt grub as a trailer but I had to burn it to make it plane. Then I tried a rage swimmer and same deal.

I took off the skirt and tried both without but it runs sideways a bit without the skirt.

My inexperience has made me feel its just easier to leave the skirt on no trailer lol

I throw cavitrons with no skirt and a zcraw or pit boss Trailer.  I find it helps them stay up and swim straight.

I do. I will also use a zoom speed craw on 1/4 buzzbaits. I also throw a swimbait at times on my buzzbaits. I also will fish the buzzbaits with skirt still attached. I throw buzzbaits alot.

I had the exact same experience...even used a Rage Swimmer like you and mine did the same thing, went sideways. No more trailers for me on buzzbaits!!!
