Us as well. The boy played from cal ripken years, babe ruth ball (All Stars during those years), JR High, High School, Legion and then NCAA college ball so we watch it every year too; love it And was this the first time ever a team had gone into the losers side and come back to win the thing? 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 27, 2019 Super User Posted August 27, 2019 Yes, it was the first time a team from the loser's bracket won the tournament. It was the first time every player on one team had a hit. It was the first time all the players understood LSU's football coach, Coach O, when Coach O speaks. It was the first time all the players know how to make a roux, catch redfish, make a good gumbo and fry a turkey. And it is the first time the LSU baseball coach, Paul Mainieri, walked around writing down names, addresses, and phone numbers in his little black recruiting book. Geaux River Ridge! Hit the French Quarter for some celebration. 2 Quote
dave Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 I only watched because it was on at the gym. Really impressed by the quality of play. 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted August 28, 2019 Super User Posted August 28, 2019 I usually try and catch a few of the games every year, but I have a problem with the LL 11-12 year old division that plays in the WS. Let me preface this by saying I'm a long time youth baseball coach in rec ball, travel ball, and this year middle school ball. Our local rec ball plays Dixie Youth Baseball and not Little League baseball. The first problem I have with this division of LL is that the fields are way too small. The 60 foot baselines and 50 foot pitching distances are much too close for 12 year olds. Our 11 year olds play 70 foot baselines and 54 foot pitching distances. Our outfield fences are a minimum 225 feet while LL is 200 feet. The second issue I have is the rules, and this is related to the field dimensions. No leadoffs or straight steals? That's not baseball. We were playing leadoffs and steals in our 9U and 10U age groups. At 11 and 12 years old teh game plays much better with the bigger field. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 10, 2019 Super User Posted September 10, 2019 Louisiana governor scored a bunch of the Popeyes special sandwiches for the team's visit to Baton Rouge. The kids loved it. Now onto the White House and hopefully to be introduced before a game in Tiger Stadium, which will top the White House visit. And then introduced before an LSU baseball game next year where each player has to give Coach Mainieri their name, address, and phone number. 1 Quote
