zellamander Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Hey guys, I just wanted to see what ya'll had for a first fishing boat. Post pictures if ya got them. My first boat was a 14' john boat with a 25 hp Evinrude. I bought a used peice of crap 28lb thrust trolling motor and made my own front deck on it out of plywood. I used left over house carpet to put in it, it was ugly but sure was comfortable haha! Quote
JayDub Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 1957 Lonestar Commander that my dad bought 14 years ago for the small lake we live on... I restored it 3 summers ago, but sadly, I sold it to fund my first Fiberglass bass boat. :'( Before: After: Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 A brand new 1972 Sears 10' jon boat with a Shakespeare trolling motor. Quote

BassinDave Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Mine was a '50s something 12' Jon boat with a 3.5 horse motor. I stipped and painted it, added a trolling motor, pedistal seats, carpeted floor boards. It got the job done. Now I have a Nitro NX 750 with a 115. It gets the job done too but gets there a little bit faster and with a little more comfort. Quote

Palmetto Fisherman Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Just bought it a few months ago. 1995 ranger 481VS with 150hp Johnson I love it so far Quote
jcv Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I wish I had some digital pics of my first boat. I bought it in 1994 and it was a 1979 Galaxy 20' cuddy with a Mercruiser 240 170hp I/O. I kept it in a slip 9 miles from the ocean and used to go out once or twice a week. That was my 1st saltwater fishing experience. I sold the boat a year later after I bought my first house and didn't get another until last year! Quote
JKay Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 12' aluminum jon with 30# Minn Kota. I still use this when I have more than 4 hours to fish. If less, out comes the kayak Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted August 4, 2008 Super User Posted August 4, 2008 Since no one really gives a rat's butt about anyone else's first boat, mine was a 36' Cris Craft Jon Boat. It had a 2520 lb MinnKotorGuide TM on the bow, but I couldn't put a gas motor on it because of all the batteries needed for the TM. Quote

smlbass Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I bought my first boat this spring, a 2000 Nitro 640LX with a 50hp Mercury. After getting addicted to fishing, I see something much bigger/faster in my future. Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 17' Manatee to 18' Lema to 25 Grady-White to 21' Steiger Craft along the way, for the freshwater, there was a 12' Lowe light duty (only weighed 72 lbs, great for exploring new water) to 14- Lowe mod v to the current 2 12'- Ranger Comanche Z12 ;D 15' Boston Whaler Rage Jet Proto-type (my most favorite yet. More fun than a barrel of monkeys) and my future boat,...(get over to my site and buy a shirt, I WANT this bad boy!!! ) Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Quote 17' I would have guessed the first boat would have been a dinghy? Rimshot Sorry ... short statcher (sp?) small boat... get it? Quote
done Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Just got it this summer. Tracker topper 1436 (w/o the livewell). Got an 8 HP 4stroke outboard on there. It moves. In the process of adding some floor boards and seats to it now. Quote
bassackward 1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Mine was a homemade flat bottomed plywood boat made by my Dad and I. I had to run to the bow to get it on plane. ;D Both the boat and motor finally died. I have had a bunch of small aluminum boats since, but I traveled a lot in construction, so I never had a good one. So I've been looking for one since I retired. Quote
riverfisher Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 1963 Sears 12' V with a 1963 2Hp Evinrude. Quote
