I have recently purchased 2 spinning setups and don’t know what line to put on them. I have a medium and medium light with 300 size spinning reels on them. What line would you recommend for each?

Personally?

Yo-Zuri on both, 10# on the Medium, 6# on the Medium-Light

Don't forget the KVD.

Line depends on what you are fishing for and where.

Around cover you may want heavier more abrasion resistant line.

In clear water, thin clear line.

For example.

If crappie fishing with jigs in deeper water I usually go with trilene XL #6  clear.

When crappie fishing around heavy cover in stained water, I might use daiwa J-braid green #15 so I dont lose so many jigs.

Not an easy question to answer without knowing the situations you will be fishing with those set ups.

On my medium light set up with a 300 reel I have some 6lb Sufix Elite. Easy casting mono. On my Medium setup I have 8lb Sufix Promix another easy casting mono.

I use those rods for Ned rigs, wacky worms, small crankbaits (Rebel Wee Craw, etc) in-line spinners and small tubes and grubs.

I do braid on every reel (spinning and casting) I have,

and add a leader of 6, 8, 10 generally, but will go from

4-15 at times.

10 or 15# Power Pro Super Slick 8 for braid. Can go a

bit lighter, of course. Braid is stronger than we think.

Don't  use 10 lb Yo-Zuri line on your spinning reels 6 lb or .010 D is max because Yo-Zuri Hybrid is the largest diameter ( 10 lb is .012.D)  highest memory line on the market per lb test.

Tom

PS, I rarely contradict members post but this is an exception.

(shrugs) That's what I have on my Trion...using KVD I haven't had any issues with it. To each their own...

7# Sunline Sniper on my ML 682 Champ. With a 2500 Sustain.

Don't like braid but that's me.

Been trying different lines for spinning for 30 yrs and this is my favorite. (Cant afford Tatsu ?)

I don't use my spinning gear much and decided to break out my Shimano 2500 last week. Respooled it with 7lb Sniper and was really impressed with this line.

I use 15 lbs spider wire stealth braid with seaguar red label leader on all my spinning gear. It's cheap and I've never had a problem with it. I never use line conditioner on anything either. Good luck

I would start with 15 to 20 pound J braid 8 or Power Pro super slick 8, braid on the med.  6 pound Trilene XL or Maxima Ultra green on the med light.  Use rod with braid when sensitivity, and low stretch, are a priority.  The one with mono for light crank baits, inline spinners and other lures where stretch and sensitivity are not an issue.    I have only used florocarbon for leader, having zero experience using it as the main line.  After reading posts on this site, I'm going to give Sunline Sniper a try on a couple of my spinning outfits.

All of my spinning reels have 10 lbs braid. It hasnt failed me yet.

I even use jerkbait on 10lbs with leader.

This ^.  6-10 lb mono (I like XL), or 10-15 lb braid (I like original PP) will get you in the ball park unless you are doing something extreme.

The 10 lb at .012/0.308 is actually as thin as the 10/12 lb CX Premium that's claimed to be a thin line.

Well, whether 0.012 is too thick for a spinning reel, is another consideration. To me, I use up to 0.36 mm C21 (15 lb) on my spinning reels without management issues. The key is to find the right reel that always spools line evenly. So far the Safina Pro SPa-35 is the only one I've found. Anyway, I have scaled down to .30 - 0.31 mm, because I think it is the optimal diameter for all purposes - still strong enough to pull out snagged hooks and not too thick for panfish. I now use soft hooks only such as Eagle Claw Aberdeen.

6lb or 8lb Trilene XL 100% FC.  I have tried braid multiple times and found that unless I am fishing topwater, I prefer something else.  Too many line twists and over all, it's just frustrating at times

Another suggestion would be 8lb P-Line Fluoroclear.

I have 3 spinning outfits. All have Hi Vis yellow Power Pro braid, 10# test with 7# Sunline Sniper FC. Works for me. The only line besides braid that I likes is Berkley Sensation. It cast great with min. trouble. I just had to have a line I could see.

I’ve fished 6# and 8# XL (spinning setups) as long as I can remember. This season I’ve been fishing some McCoy & Stren and have been very satisfied. Being a creature of habit has probably handicapped me in many aspects over through the years.
