TroyCopeland05 Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Has anyone recently caught bass from Lodi Lake? If so, could you give me some advice? This is my home lake but have only been there 3 times and only caught bluegills. Thanks for any help. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 24, 2019 Super User Posted August 24, 2019 Lodi lake is part of the San Juaqine Delta located adjacent to the Mokelumne River and I have only driven past it. Googled it and it has spotted bass, stripe bass, catfish and bluegill. Why restrict yourself to a shallow lake when you have the Delta area to fish? The Mokelumne river that runs next to Lodi lake has descent bass fishing plus lots of local sloughs to fish. I would use a 6" to 7 1/2" Texas rigged w/3/16 oz sliding bullet weight soft plastic worm and fan cast the bank areas. If there are bass in the area you should get strikes. Tom PS, Bluegills......what type of tackle are you using, spinning? Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted August 24, 2019 Super User Posted August 24, 2019 @12poundbass, A band from the People’s Democratic Republic of Berkeley, and a nice blast from the past! And welcome @TroyCopeland05 to Bass Resource and the Forums. I’ve never fished Lodi Lake, so unfortunately I can’t offer any insight to that particular lake. If you’re fishing from shore Troy, maybe try a 5” stick bait (senko) in green pumpkin, watermelon w/red and black flake or a spinnerbait. And as @WRB suggested, fan cast an area then move a short distance and repeat the process. Good luck and good fishing 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 24, 2019 Super User Posted August 24, 2019 Ok. Let's rethink this. Using spinning tackle I suggest a split shot and finesse size 4 1/2" to 5" soft plastic worms. What you need: Split shot rig; size 4 ( 3/32 oz) round split shot ( without ears ). Size 1 Owner 5133 down shot hook Gamakatsu straight shank worm hook.. 4 1/2" or 5" Roboworm curl tail in MM III or oxblood lite red flake worms. Pinch the slit shot onto your line about 6" from the end. Slowly pull about 24" of line through the shot, it will cut a curve into the shot. Using a Palomar or clinch knot tie on the hook and clip off the tag end. Pinch on the shot tight about 18" above the hook. Look up how to weedless ( Texas) hook the worm, make sure it's straight and doesn't spin in the water. You have some good bass tackle stores in your area that carry what you need. Cast and let sink to the bottom and slowly drag the rig back to you. When you feel a tap or weight stop and watch the line for movement, if iyour line moves or you feel movement set the hook. Good luck, Tom PS, also search this site for "slip shot rig", it similar to a split shot, same hooks and worms. Quote

Have you ever been to Lodi or even know where it is? CC& R has nothing to do with Lodi other then lyrics in a song about pot smoking. Tom Quote

CCR is from El Cerrito California which is southwest of Lodi. And the song has absolutely nothing to do with pot smoking at all, I think you should listen to the song again. ? Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 25, 2019 Super User Posted August 25, 2019 You are right, must have been smoking to much and was thinking of Rollin on the River the Proud Mary song. Know the area well we have freinds who orchard farm in the area. Way off topic, try adding something to help this youngster catch a few bass. Tom PS, the small town of Lodi located at the cross roads od hwy's 99 & 12 was 1 block long during the late 60's...stuck in Lodi was meaningful. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 26, 2019 Global Moderator Posted August 26, 2019 @12poundbass beat me to it. “Oh lawd, shtuck in Lodi ah-gain....” 1 Quote
Mook Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 I know this is a old post but it’s a pretty shallow grassy lake fished it a couple times when I came to visit family. 3/8th oz red rattle traps and 3/8th white chatter baits worked well for me just fan casting. Rattle trap fish were caught deeper and chatter bait fish a few feet of fthe bank. Grass can grow pretty tall here. Never threw a senko but sure a weightless Texas rig would work too. Also threw some deps 250s got some followers But none would commit. It is pretty hard lake to fish Lots of pressure being the only lake In Lodi Quote
