Strike Prince Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 So me and my bro are looking to get an affordable bass boat. Probably aluminum since I think there is less upkeep? Our budget is around 2000 dollars. I am a total newbie at this and have no idea where to start. I guess I'm mostly looking for durablity, casting decks and stability. Any suggestions? Thanks bros. mayassa Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 You can start with the local paper and craigslist. look for the longest and widest boat yo can afford. You can deck it yourself, try to get one with a OB motor, that will cost you a fortune to buying it new. You can pick up a bow mount trolling motor refurb 65 minn kota for ($400) at Bass Pro shops every so often they will run a sale. Batteries 2 ($160), wood and paint ($250). Maybe you can find one done for 2K if your lucky. Quote
zellamander Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Craigslist is amazing. Keep an eye on that. There are good deals to be found on there, but they don't last long. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted August 5, 2008 Super User Posted August 5, 2008 Just do your homework on any you get serious about. Quote
JShrock07 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Don't just jump into buying a boat... I did that my first time and it took me forever to get things right with it. But make sure you shop around before you actually buy one. It may take a while to find the best boat but winter time is usually the best time to buy one since most people are trying to sell their boats for hunting equipment. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 The first thing you need to decide is where you want to fish. Big reservoirs or 10hp limit lakes? Do you need to get in and out of tight quarters, or do you need stability on big water? Once you narrow down what you're looking for, getting a good deal is just a matter of patience and persistance.
