sharkman Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 hi i am new to bass boats and am wondering if this would be a deal? its a ranger 1983 320v with a merc 125. now the guy wants 3500 for boat motor and trailer. everything is working. one livewell isn't working but everything else is. now my one problem so far is the fact i dont own a truck. ive got a subaru Forrester 4cyl auto.. the manual says it will tow 1000lbs without trailer brakes and 2000 lbs with brakes. now will i be able to tow? and one last question i was thinking of getting into a club and tourneys, will the length of this boat stop me from tournament fishing? Super User Jig Man Posted August 3, 2008 Super User Posted August 3, 2008 If you buy that boat plan on it not stopping the load and plan on buying a transmission real soon. The other option is to get a bigger tow vehicle. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 3, 2008 Super User Posted August 3, 2008 You don't have anything to pull it with so why buy it??????? Quote
J_Zink Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Fully loaded with gas and gear, that rig probably pushes close to 2000 lbs. That's way too much IMO. You need to be looking at aluminum boats, not fiberglass with that tow vehicle. Quote
Palmetto Fisherman Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 that boat will catch plenty of fish to win most tourneys provided the right guy is holding the seat down. Id get another tow rig first. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted August 3, 2008 Super User Posted August 3, 2008 No, you have nothing to tow it with. Quote
Daiwa Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Thats a good price thought. Is it worth passing up? Our 2003 Pro 16v Tracker with a 50hp 4 stroke is like $10,000. Would you beable to find someplace on a lake (like a friend, or family member) to leave tied to a dock? Quote
JShrock07 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 If you are planning on buying something... I would buy a larger tow vehicle. That boat seems like a great deal but it will not be worth your money if you cannot get it to the water. JMPO Quote
mayassa Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I would buy it then pick up an old F150 to tow it with. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted August 4, 2008 Super User Posted August 4, 2008 Just because it says Ranger on it does not mean it is worth the 3500.00. That boat is 25 years old and could(And probably does) have many things wrong with it. Transom Flooring Wiring Trailer engine Carbs Just to name a few. Water test it and have a mechanic go over it carefully before you decide. Check title paperwork also. Quote
