Jimmyjigs Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 When I watch the "pro's" fishing tournaments the majority of the guys use white, soft rods. What are the rods made of and why do all the guys use them? Quote
CroakHunter Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 Guess you are talking about duckett? Only know a few guys that use them. Boyd duckett, jacob wheeler, gary Klein, amd timmy Horton. They use them because they are the rods that have the potential to make them the most money. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted August 18, 2019 Super User Posted August 18, 2019 Majority? Not the "pros" I watch. As mentioned above though, the ones that do are using Duckett rods. I know Favorite makes a white rod but I am not sure if anyone uses them. I know Zack Birge uses them but I don't think he uses the white one. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 18, 2019 Global Moderator Posted August 18, 2019 Boyd Duckett, Timmy Horton, that's the end of the list I know of off the top of my head of actual pros that use white rods a majority of the time. Quote
Daniel Abram Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 i have a white rod and love it. One of my favorite . Abu Garcia Veritas 3 1 Quote
deadadrift89 Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Lews is another company that has some white in line up, got one of their cranking sticks. Regarding Duckett I've seen more than one in past being broken by a "pro" on TV ?? Quote
PaFrogThrower9 Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 I've seen plenty of other brands broken by pros as well. I've broken plenty of non Duckett rods myself. Haven't had a Duckett fail me yet. Everybody has their own preference and opinion. To each is own. 1 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted August 19, 2019 Super User Posted August 19, 2019 A lot of the pros use Daiwa Tatula Elite rods which on TV can look white although they are a shiny silver... Omori, Ehrler, Monroe, Howell use them to name a few... 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 19, 2019 Super User Posted August 19, 2019 I may have posted this before....... Since I was a I child..... White rods are just bad luck.... It's just a dump superstition> Nobody take it personal and I got nothing to back this up either. 1 Quote

Abu Garcia Veritas I’ve been fishing a Crankbait version of this rod this season. I love it. I knew I’d like the rod before I even got it on the water but after fishing it, it exceeds my initial thoughts. Quote

What are the rods made of and why do all the guys use them? There are several manufacturers that make rods with white blanks. They are made of the same thing as other colored rods. Pros fish with their sponsors sticks, what ever color they may be. I wouldn't agree with the majority using white rods, and soft? If you mean slower, yeah, anyone who knows anything about fishing (all fishing, not just LMB fishing) will choose a slower rod most of the time. Quote

I'm not gonna say there aren't junk rods out there but a lot of rods issues come from how you take care of them, what your trying to do with them, and the most common factor of user error. Quote
Grantman83 Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Off the top of my head it’s Klein, Duckett, wheeler, scroggins, Horton, Rojas 1 Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted August 19, 2019 Super User Posted August 19, 2019 Shimano Sellus rods were white, but I see the new ones are a bright blue. Not a fan of white. Nor the old Lightning Shock rods. Nor Yellow. I don't see many professionals using white. Quote

DSTN Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 BPS Carbonlite series of this gen and previous gen are white or whitish at least. I see those all the time on MLF reruns. Pretty sure Edwin Evers and Ott Defoe at least use or used those. Maybe Bobby Lane did at one point too. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 You will find that some of the pros sponsored by BPS will fish occasionally with the white Carbon Lite 2.0. The one who surprised me the most was Rick Clune fishing with one. I am certainly not a pro, but my deck is covered with the Carbonlite 2.0 rods. Love them. 2 Quote
