Skunkd Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Not sure this question belongs here but here goes. What hook would you use with a Super Fluke to get max casting distance and not kill the action? Would be on an 8' inshore spin outfit with 20lb braid and a 20lb flouro leader. We're 2-3 weeks away (hopefully) from the start of false albacore season here in the NE. Sometimes the slower retrieved bait is the one they'll key in on and the Super Fluke is the perfect size and has a ton of colors. Just looking for some options from the usual epoxy minnows, etc. Thx T Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted August 16, 2019 Super User Posted August 16, 2019 white 4 1/2" sluggo on a RonZ jighead. JBs with single hooks work well too. Don't love the fluke, but any stout hook will work. I usually go with a live bait hook or an O'shaug. I find a slim small metal lure works well too. It's still a little early though. I'm bringing up a few Navy buds to do the striped bass, bluefish, albies, when it gets going. Quote

Skunkd Posted August 16, 2019 Author Posted August 16, 2019 Last year the Hogy epoxy 7/8oz in silver crushed for me on MV. Worst day I had was 2 fish landed, best was 8. Bringing the Hobie Outback this year and may do a guided day...we'll see. The yak opens up a lot of possibilities where distance isn't as important. Still have a ton of albie snax left from last year as well as DD's.Will pick up some sluggos too. Think I'll have some splaining to do when the bank statement for this month comes Quote
Super User JustJames Posted August 17, 2019 Super User Posted August 17, 2019 1/0 circle hook, nose hook? Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted August 17, 2019 Super User Posted August 17, 2019 I’d think you’d want some sort of keel-weighted hook to get some distance even in a breeze Might also be worth checking out zman jerkbaits especially if bluefish will be around. Quote
