2018 tatula rods

Looking at the 71H to throw Frogs.  Does anyone have experience with this model, or the rods in general?  I know they are probably the best rods in their price range, but I have heard they are very stiff.  Could this model cast  1/2 oz frog well?

I have a 6’6”, 6’8” medium spinning rod and a 6’10” MH casting rod. The spinning rods are super crisp and fish exactly with in their weight specs. Super light/balanced and sensitive. The casting rod has some great backbone and is sensitive. Really well made rods with nice components. I don’t know the specific model you are asking about.

Not sure if you are asking about the elite or the xt tatula..I have the 7'4" heavy frog xt model, with a diawa fuego baitcaster, 50lb smackdown braid. Using a 1/2 oz frog, it cast's very well, has good action. However it's rated up to 2 oz. so for the heck of it, I tied on a 2 oz swimbait, and the rod struggled to cast it well, so if the elites are similar they are slightly over rated for lure weight.  otherwise, I love the rod.

I had the 6’10” Medium Heavy/Fast casting rod.  Liked it at first, but then one day I used it for couple hours (only rod I brought) and ended up changing my mind.  My hand was in pain and just didn’t like the overall feel. Ended up selling it as I mainly use my ALX IKOS Rods and love them.

I recently bought a 7' 1" medium heavy extra fast for jig fishing. 

 

I looked at the Heavy as well, didn't find either to be stiff at all.

I fish a 7'6 medium heavy for jigs and don't find it to be overly stiff. Very nice rod for the money. I would say you are right on the money with what rod you want to throw 1/2 ounce frogs. Would also make a good pitching rod

It doesn’t have a soft tip. The 7’4 elite ish Monroe frog rod does.

I am talking about the regular tatula rods with the full cork handles.

Meaning the 71H or the 76MH you have?

From the reel seat? That happens to me with the originals.

Dicks has the 7 ' 4 frog rod on sale for a really good price. Bad thing is, another poster has a thread about recieving one broken from bad packaging.

Personally I only trust dedicated retailers to ship rods. I would never buy a rod from amazon or something. I also feel that a rod rated to 2 ounces is a bit more then I would like.

I have the older model Tatula 7'4" HF rod and love it for frogs. I'm tall so I like longer rods. It is stiff but has enough tip flex to launch frogs, even light ones like booyah pad crashers.

Hey have you heard of the Dobyns Fury 735? lmao just kiddin bro.

 

You want a fast tip to work the frog. You want a heavy to XH power to pull the fish out of the nasty stuff so up to 2 oz dont matter as long as the tip is good to go.  Its a sight bait so any price range will do. My rod doubles as a flippin stick so sensitivity is nice to have if its pullin double duty. Keep that in mind. As far as height is concerned, I am 6'2" and fish the dc736 and can rock that frog from the bank. Keep that under consideration.

I ordered it once, but sent it back when I felt the rod in hand. Way too heavy. Fury is way overrated IMO.

Correct.  It could be the way I cast but definitely didn’t feel comfortable after a while.  I can see why people love the rod but it’s just not for me.

Ended up ordering the 71HF. We’ll see how it handles soon hopefully.
